How come most comedians can't get past their appearance and make some genuinely funny jokes?

Black comedians can't get over being black, Fat comedians can't get over being fat, etc.

Katt Williams, Carlos Mencia, that one fat guy that everybody at my school loves. It's like the comedians are using their race or appearance as a gimmick, in place of something more creative yet equally stupid, like Jeff Dunham's puppets. Even Dane Cook has better jokes than these unfunny bastards! Whatever happened to people making jokes that aren't "Hey, I'm black! PASS THE WEED HOMIE, LET'S CAP SOME BITCHES!"?

smart comedy doesnt appeal to the masses or complete dumbass americans who actually pay money to watch the shows. Thats how redneck comedy is popular, there are so many retards that like repetitive jokes that they get popular only from retards.

Well black comedians predominately play to crowds of black people. Chris Rock and Richard Pryor are the first names that spring to mind. The will use their race as their main subject because it will appeal to their target demographic.
