Well, when you submit art, you have the option to don't make it public. That way, the things you submit won't appear in the art portal, is that what you're talking about?

you're going in the wrong direction.

You're turning NG into an artsy community, and not focusing on what it was started for.

I'm loving it, but I really think you should allow art to be on the front of your profile page like flash is, and also have a featured art part like there is with music, movies and games.

I can't draw shit, so this ain't useful to me.

It's still awesome, just in case I get the hang of it later.
