Official Halo 3: Odst Thread

This thread is for all the news, rumors, content, etc pertaining to the upcoming game expansion Halo 3: ODST. Feel free to add to the thread with information you have that I do not add in the original post. This thread IS NOT for talking about how much you dislike Halo, Halo 3: ODST, think Halo is overrated, etc. Go somewhere else and do that.

Story
The game is set a few weeks before the events of Halo 3. You are the Rookie and you have to search through New Mombasa and find out what has happened to your missing teamates. During this campaign you will pick up key items that are clues to what happened to your teammates and will play there flashbacks to see what happened to them. There is no set order for the missions, it is up to you.

Multiplayer
The same as Halo 3's. It will launch will all 24 Halo 3 maps on the disc and 3 new maps.
Firefight Mode
Similar to Horde mode in Gears of War you and your fellow ODST members will have to fend off waves of covenant troops. The enimes spawned are random so you may start off with a wave of all grunts or multiple tanks and a bunch of brutes. As you progress through the waves different skulls are put on to switch things up and make things a bit more tricky and interesting. Each player has a set number of lives which, upon their depletion the game ends. There is no time limit, no limited number of rounds and no maximum number of kills

Release and Preorder
Halo 3: ODST will ship as a two-disc set. The first disc containing the campaign mode as well as the firefight co-op mode, while the second disc will contain the multiplayer mode with the complete set of Halo 3 maps. Owners of the game will receive an invitation to participate in the upcoming Halo: Reach multiplayer beta in 2010, while pre-orders will include a token to unlock Sgt. Johnson as a playable character in the Firefight multiplayer mode.

A special edition "Collector's Pack" has been confirmed, containing the game and a special ODST wireless Xbox 360 Controller.

Fuck this game. All it will be is Halo 3 with health packs and silencers. Bungie will clearly milk the series beyond belief. They will just continue to release the same game over and over until people smarten up and stop buying them.

I popped in Halo today to play with some friends and there was an ad for ODST. It was something about getting Sgt. Johnson as a playable character in the Firefight mode if you preorder.

Yep. I mentioned it at the end of the original post. I will definitely preorder and pick this up on day one. I want the Reach beta and Sgt. Johnson.

Pretty sure ODST doesn't really have an "Online" it does have Firefight mode and that's about it.

Yeah. ODST comes with two discs - the one for the campaign and firefight, and the halo 3 multiplayer. So basically if you already own halo 3, the second disc that comes with ODST is pretty useless.

Well they did a study after E3 which games had the most purchase intent and Halo 3: ODST came out on top. It topped games like MW2, God of War, Final Fantasy, etc. Of course that was only one survey from one site but it shows that the Halo community is still alive, well and wants more.

Except for people who bought an arcade and can't afford a hard drive. All maps on disk, so now you can play all the playlists.

I'll definitely be getting this, it looks quite good. Sure, Halo is a bit overrated and Bungie are milking it a bit, but if anything it is still a fun game and will always be a fun game.

This. Even if they are milking the franchise with this game, at least they're taking it in a new direction for this game.

The achievements were leaked in a video yesterday, have since been removed. However, the achievements necessary for Recon armor are still up.

The Vidmaster Achievements require you to own both Halo3 and Halo3: ODST, although the latter will come shipped with a seperate Halo3 Multiplayer disc - one of the Vidmasters require you to have the Halo3 Campaign.

All 7 Vidmaster Achievements to obtain Recon Armour are listed below:

Vidmaster Challenge: 7 on 7 - 0 GamerScore
Entered into a ranked or social playlist with 7 EXP on the 7th of the month.

Vidmaster Challenge: Lightswitch - 0 GamerScore
Got the rank of Lieutenant in any playlist in the new EXP progression system.

Vidmaster Challenge: Annual - 0 GamerScore
After 9/25/08, completed Halo on 4-player Legendary LIVE co-op, with Iron, and everyone in Ghosts.

Vidmaster Challenge: Brainpan - 0 GamerScore
Find all the hidden skulls on the Mythic maps.

Vidmaster Challenge: Endure - 25 GamerScore
In Firefight, on any mission, passed the 4th Set on 4-player Heroic LIVE co-op.

Vidmaster Challenge: Déjà vu - 25 GamerScore
Completed Highway on 4-player Legendary LIVE co-op, with Iron, and no 'Hog or Scorpion.

Vidmaster Challenge: Classic - 25 GamerScore
Finished any level solo on Legendary, on LIVE, with no shots fired or grenades thrown.

Well if you you get the special edition you get the controller yes. I'm preordering just the regular edition. I want the Halo Reach beta. Yes the second disc is just a Halo 3 online disc but it comes with some more maps.
