North Korea has made these threats before. They have never followed through. N.K. is all talk, but with recent developments, they think that people will suddenly take them seriously because they've done minimal nuclear testing.

If North Korea actually did launch a nuclear attack, it would have to be on Japan, since I doubt that they would have the equipment to reach the U.S., and Japan has pretty strained relations with N.K., so they'd be the most logical target. Of course, assuming that the nuke is capable to getting to Japan.

well lets just say north korea makes an atomic warhead in a missle and they hit tokyo.. yeah .. it is in the WORLDS best interest not to have a bomb hit tokyo.. russia and china really need to cooperate much more with japan and the US...they already are but they seem to think that angering korea is a bad idea.. maybe they are just looking out for the little bastards

They think it's a bad idea obviously because of the negative effects of a nuke, seriously you go in there gunho American like you boys did in Iraq and they're going to launch a nuke, so what if it doesn't have the capacity to directly effect the US, they still launched a fucking nuke.

The environmental effects alone would be devastating let alone the loss of life, which would be felt long after and far from the blast site.

The right thing to do is diplomatic methods, this isn't some starving middle eastern country, the US military or any military wouldn't be able to stop them from launching even with a first strike, they're not fast enough.

22 million residents of NK are fed by support programs providing food to them from other countries, they do anything outta line and the aid stops, and so do their lives.
They have hardly any nuclear capabilities, they've only got short range missles so SK is the only place who might be biting their nails.
But its not like it used to be, you dont conquer your neighbours, especially if you're surrounded by sea. If they even blow their nose in the wrong direction North Korea will be the setting for Fallout 4.

Pacific coastal winds will blow any radiation from the blast into North Korea, thus resulting in the deaths of thousands of his own civilians, possibly himself.

You need to update your research NK has greatly enhanced the ability of their missiles, they could easily hit Japan and possibly the American Western coast.

That would take a shitload of money, research, and time. And there's no way that they could test that without garnering a lot of unwanted attention. They don't have the resources to make that work, not now. They're too busy funding their military, nuclear weapon development programs, and Kim Jong Il's appetite for luxury.
