I went to school for animation and didn't realize I wanted to go into comics till after I graduated a couple of years later. I tried getting a job in animation and didn't succeed. I tried getting art-related work and didn'tget anyway. My family and I moved around a lot. I spent time trying to figure out what I wanted to do. I spend time trying to get info on grants and fellowships and awards to help me get my comics published and destributed. I went to a local art school but I only took ONE course in comic creativity. The local colleges where I now live don't offer an extensive art ciriculum. I tried looking into jobs through the alumni dept. at my old art school, but even if I could get to those jobs the commute is too expensive, 'cause I live in upstate Ny and the jobs are in downstate NY, so I didn't really pusrue that/ If I lived in NYC or Long Island that wouldn't be a problem. The films and animations I made when I was in school got lost when my
family and I moved.
I want to go back to school to get a second degree in illustration/cartooning, but I have issues with financial aid. I graduated art school in '98. It's not I tried to get a job in my field.
I need training for comic book art and writing. Signing up for that 2-year program with Art Instructional Schools the next best thing. i wasn't sure if I should pursue that till I spoke to my old animation advisor.
Am I too old to get my comic career going? Your thoughts?
I'm not letting something like my age discourage me.

Don't waste your time and money with an "education".
At your age, GET GOOD. Practice, that's all you have to do. Buy one anatomy book, buy magazines etc. and copy them from cover to cover.
Comics are HARD WORK and they take years of practice to get to a point where you don't suck. When they hire you, they want to see what you can draw, not what school you've been in.
My guess is that about 2 days in you'll realize that it's way more work than it's worth and you'll get a job at Kinkos or a telemarketer company.
But hey, prove me wrong.

I'm waiting to hear from Art Instructional Schools so I can sign-up for their 2-year art program. I only regret not getting involved with them sooner.

You shouldn't let your age discourage you from something you want to do. It might work out, it might not, but you'll never know unless you try! It's never too late! Good luck!

Just keep doing what your doing with a part time job to support yourself and such. Eventually somebody will find you and pick up your stuff. Have you ever heard of Comic Con? You seem to be spending money A LOT on your education and I think that MAYBE you should spend some of that money and put it towards a trip to Comic Con where you can promote yourself heavily and possibly be picked up.
It is just a thought.

As I said I spent time trying to figure out what I"m going to do with it, between job-hunting and trying to find money to get it going and deciding on whether or not I was going to further my art training and education, and how.
