Yo.

posting early as I have some work I want to finish off tonight.

This was on LegolaSS's big list of cow topics, but I'll give the credit to my beautiful girlfriend who suggested it first :p

This week's optically orgasmic theme: 12+ EYES!!!
Design a creature which has 12 or more eyes!

RULE FOR THIS WEEK:
- Having 12+ eyes must be the focus of the picture or description.

eg. No "Here's David the Pteropachyderm, he shoots spunk. PS he has 10 eyes on his tail."

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT
- Only one entry per user will go through to the vote thread.
- You cannot post your old work.
- No human likeness.
- No existing animals.
- No obvious combinations of animals (eg. no rooster headswith beaver bodys).
- A description for your creature is recommended, but not necessary.
- No MS Paint.
- All other Art Forum rules apply.

If you have any other suggestions for COW topics, either PM them to TurkeyOnAStick, or leave a reply on SirNightOwl's List Of Past COW Topics!

Get crackin'!

gonna use acrylics for a while, since I've left my tablet in Manchester and I need the practise.

The Clumping Stomper has 12 eyes. Strangely enough though, they're all non-functional, and the Clumping Stomper is totally blind. It uses its antennas place over its mouth for orientation. Truely a freak of nature.

Its primary source of food is toasted waffles.

Really cool idea/creature, Karl, incredibly well executed as always, and in a such a short period of time! I'm really going to force myself to do this one, I haven't done anything digital in a while. Heres a WIP

It's very good, however, the creature is supposed to have the eyeballs. Not the picture.
A little touch up just to amend that and you'll have a superb entry for this week.

Well i was bored so i decided to draw this guy up, i don't know what his name is but he is a tentacle monster covered in muck, his little wing can only carry him when he sheds his muck protection. He has 12 eyes that are all fully functional yet he uses his biggest eye the most. He dwells where there is mud or in swamps and is active in the night, he is very carnivorus.

Here he is

A fast medium sized creature that hovers over the grasslands when it's misty. These creatures also has a minimum of 12 eyes all over the head. As time passes by, the old ones die and new ones grow.

It looks great (against the rules, but still great). The biggest problem I would have with this is that there is not really any focus on the eyes. COW is about building a creature around a certain theme, whereas you made a (cool) creature that just happens to apply to this theme.
It would be nice if the "has a lot of eyes" bit stood a bit out more

This is as far as I'm gettin ya'll. (gotta go on vacation so ill miss next weeks too) :(

anyway here is the beasty,

The Opticavian
Has 14 eyes (one is on other side of head). Each row of its eyes looks a different direction, so Its only weak side is from the back. It eats mostly insects and bugs, but fends very strongly for itself when guarding its territory. They are also hunted for the delicacy of its eyeballs, which are said to have a deliciously sweet taste when roasted on an open fire.

Hey I've got a quick question before I start work on this. Is it generally frowned upon to show our concepts and how we've developed them into our final piece? Or maybe I should just link to the concepts and only post the final?

If it's any concern, I'll make it clear which is the final piece I'm submitting.

Show a couple of work in progresses (WIPs) and link to styles etc your trying to emulate, but we don't want a 10 step guide to how you came about your finished product. Use COW as a excuse to try things and product some high quality art. :)

alright then, here's teh first WIP from one of my concept scribbly thingies.

I belted this out in a little over 15 minutes using standard brushes with no opacity changes at all. I know it seems a little flat and it's hard to tell from this, but the dark circle with 2 eyes in the center is supposed to be the back of the creature's head =\

I've got to rework this, but I'll be without a tablet for a little over 3 weeks >_< I'll probably end up drawing it and scanning it in or something though.

I had to scale it down quite a bit to fit the size requirements too, so sorry if the quality's a little iffy

This Large Sea Dwelling crustacean is called a Pharonf
Its many eyes are used to spot potential prey
It stalks the water near the coast in search of human structures
it then crawls form the water surrounds the structures with its large
thin body, slowly digesting the building and its inhabitants.

It's a humanoid. The earliest stage he can amend it is to scrap it and start again.
