It's usually these things that make people go on massacres.

What you need to understand is that parents of kids your age didn't grow up with the internet. They read the news and assume every website that isn't google is filled with peodophiles and perverts looking for young meat. Even global phenomenons like MySpace fall under the category of "a perverts paradise".

My advice, give her a guided tour of Newgrounds so to speak. Show her the flash and audio portals, how people create there own unique animations and games and upload them for others, getting feedback from others. Move around the other parts of the site, your personal userpage, the store, (probably give the Mature section a miss...). Then move to the BBS and explain the general principal of it. Users post, users respond, "intellectual" discussions are born.

Boom. Hopefully your whiny mom will understand your obsession with the site and leave you to browse it.

I'm sure just about everyone on here including myself has posted questionable material that they wouldn't necessarily want their parents to see. It's a social place for people in their teens and 20s. Most of the content here doesn't seem to be catered towards a middle aged audience.

You should tell her that if she deletes your account you'll give her a hundred dollars, but if she can't she has to leave you alone.

That really sucks. I know how you feel, on my older account my mom started reading all my posts and such, and I didn't want to change the way I acted to suit what she deemed was appropriate. It got to the point where every argument we had always ended up with "WELL YOU POSTED X ON THE FORUM/ IN YOUR BLOG AND I'M DISGUSTED WITH YOU."

The thing is, I couldn't password protect my computer- my own personal computer. My dad doesn't allow me to keep my things password protected, and so I was stuck with that as is. It's part of why I ended up making this account, I just got sick of being on that one with my every movement watched over. To my knowledge they don't know about this account.

Try to talk to her about it, failing her being reasonable ask Wade for a name change. Then make an alt. Always sign out immediately whenever stepping away from the computer for a moment, and sign in with that alt instead. That keeps her from being able to check what your account name is. Or get a password and log out of your computer whenever you're away.

I'm probably not saying anything that hasn't been said already, but here goes.

Newgrounds is a gathering place for creative potential. We're designed for the purpose of collecting animations, games, and in the future (hopefully) art and literature, all to be shared openly, without fear of getting shot down by the FCC. The staff said it best: "When we say everything BY everyone, we don't necessarily mean everything FOR everyone."

And yes, a lot of the stuff submitted to the site is offensive, borderline offensive, violent, profane, perverse, adult-rated, or just plain crap. But we have a lot of great submissions too, some of which are perfectly fine for any audience. Newgrounds is a place for entertainment, and getting your name out as a creative talent.

As for the BBS, the people here really aren't any different from the people at your high school (unless you attend some private prep academy, in which case it's only mildly different). True, there are some ridiculous, obscene people here who think anything is funny if you pour enough semen on it. But there are intelligent people too, who can actually take the world seriously and still have a sense of humor about it. We make crude jokes, drug references, sarcastic empty threats; but for the most part we just want to have fun, and there's nothing you'll find here that you won't overhear in a middle school hallway (sad as it may be).

Nutshell: we're not dangerous, we're not problem children; we're just people with a place we like to go. And if you think Newgrounds is a bad influence, you should take a look at the real world.
