I think that guitars are the smallest, making them popular, not everyone has a large open space for drums.

The first instrument I ever learned was the guitar but since then I've learned drums and piano and I'm learning how to play the cello next year.

Yeah...I would say it's all about getting girls. While I think the guitar is a fantastic instrument, it is really over-hyped. Many girls will lay on their backs for any guy that can play a popular song which consists of only three chords. Not even exaggerating. It is because the guitar has such a popular association that our weak-minded society doesn't know the difference between someone with actual talent and someone who doesn't know shit.

I think guitars are popular because with them, you can play pretty much every type of music out there.
Also, because you don't need any other instrument to be played with a guitar.
Like, drums for example. Sure, you have your drum offs and your drum solos, but personally, I've never found myself listening to a song of just drumming. (Unless you count tribal music...)
Other than that, being a girl I find guitarists to be decently attractive most of the time, but then, again that goes for most musicians. (except male clarinet or flute players, ahah)

I chose to play the guitar because back when I chose it , I was a little kid and ignorant about music and didn't know how any of the other instruments worked at all lol. But now I quite enjoy guitar and bass , along with piano.

Because people learn guitar to get laid. It worked for me.

I think you're just saying that because you only listen to music that consists of an entire band. Have you ever seen a street performer play street drums? There happens to be many street performers in my city. My favorite performer happens to be one man who plays the accordion at a local cafe.

The main reason is probably Guitar Hero. It's the reason that me and most of my freinds started playing guitar.

Guitar sounds awesome. It will anger your old neighbors, get you chicks, but mostly, make you feel like you can do anything. They also look cool. Some people like myself learned the axe just to play beautiful music too.

guitar players nowadays are respected although in the classical period (pre 1800's) the guitar was considered garbage since it took no talent and everyone had one... which is true today.

I play the guitar cause it's awesome.

because guitar is the main rhythm instrument in common rock music, while drums and bass are both often overlooked, drums being the most important and bass being incredibly important, even though some bands don't even have a bass player.

I play the cello. My parents were both involved in the classical music world, and the cello sounds really good (if played well)

So, where do you draw the line? People say anyone can pick up and play a guitar. Is this true? No. If it was, than a six year old boy could play Hot For Teacher by Van Halen just by listening and knowing which strings make what sound just by placing his fingers in certain places along the fretboard.

Anyway, it takes skill to use a guitar, just as it takes skill to use anything well. People who use synthesizers need a certain amount of skill, but synthesizers can recreate any sound, inlcluding Guitar. Just because they can make a song on what sounds like a guitar on keyboard does not mean they are a musician. I don't count synthesizers as an instrument because it mocks mother instruments' sounds.

Angsty teen males tend to listen to more "modernized" shitty alternative new bands, like My Chemical Romance and Atreyu and other bands that don't really matter. Angsty teens are usually rebelling aginst classic rock instead of embracing it. And it's not "classic" if it's from the mid 70's, 80's and 90's. I think it's more along the lines of 1955-1970.
