Neville Chamberlin was a good leader, but he was a peace time leader rather than a war time leader, as well as he knew that the British Empire was not ready for a full scale war, so he tried tried every tactic to contain Hitler without resorting to warfare.

Although sadly for him, despite all the treaties Hitler signed promising peace, it was clear what his intentions were.

Chamberlin was a victim of his own time period.

Obama on the otherhand is not ruling a country in a time of iminent full scale war. The kind of battles Obamas fighting can be won with talk and diplomacy. Sure it may mean sucking up your pride a little bit, but in the end, it will be worth it.

Although Americans seem to believe that they are the worlds master and being anything less than the master in any negotiations is unacceptable.
At least thats the vibe I get from a lot of Americans on Obamas foriegn policy.

I'm curious which battles you are talking about that Obama has resorted to violence when he could have resorted to peace and diplomacy. The only ones I know of are against the Taliban where he is attempting to contain and finish a war started by his predecessor, and in Iraq, where he is doing the same thing.

Everywhere else, Obama has resorted to diplomacy and peace. This is actually what the topic creator is complaining about, even though he has no idea what he's talking about.

Some do. Others, such as myself, are against the past American foreign policy far more than most foreigners are capable of being. Perhaps it's because we know about it and have seen its effects (i.e. 9/11).

May I speak as someone who has taken a college class in European History? Thank you. Neville Chamberlain tried to use a policy of apeasement to avoid another Great War, thinking that by appeasing Hitler he could achieve this. Even going so far as to let him reoccupy the Rhineland and take over the Sudetenland of northern Czechoslovakia. This actually allowed Hitler to grow in power and start WWII, as opposed to what Neville believed, that it would satisfy him, and he would eventually stop and another great war would be avoided.
In the middle-east and other areas arounfd the world we are trying to avoid war, but not by letting unstable leaders do whatever they damn well please. if you'll remember, Kim Jong Il and North Korea in turn are having some serious mandates put up against them. What Obama is talking about is TALKING with these people, as opposed to incesantly bombing the civilians who hate the Taliban. You know, the same people we're trying to irradicate, along with Al Qaeda? What he's not saying, is to give these extremeists whatever they want. But rather, to achieve the support of the people, invest in Afghanistan's economy, and hopefully end this thing with some semblance of peace. He's not trying to avoid a great war by appeasing a military dictatorship.

I don't see a lot of particular bad decisions he's made. Most of this bad economic times can be attributed to Bush's actions. It's just really hard to adjust, I'd say he's done quite a bit already.
