Here it is:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=UI0DGE0Q

Everything at 183 BPM, maybe a little fast for the second riff. I would love to hear some drums to that.

Seriously, have we decided on a tempo or not? Personally I've heard 145 or 150 and I think that works well and we should stick with it.

I think 150 for a base tempo is good, but I also think we should be open to transitions if someone's got a riff that just doesn't sound right at that speed.

Guys, when I said record to a click track I meant to do it for yourself for consistency & so you cantell me what the BPM is. Don't put the click track in your final export ;) Because now if I lay a drum track down over that you'll still be able to hear the click and it'll sound weird.

Actually the preferable thing to do for exporting would be to leave a 4 count at the beginning and then silence it when you come in.

Sorry if I'm being a picky bitch, I'm just saying it'll allow me to get my drum tracks down in a more consistent manner.

Sorry to double post: in retrospect, the above statement ^^^ doesn't really matter because we're still in the idea phase, but it'd be awesome if you did it anyways ;) cheers

Sorry for the late post, I'll explain in a sec.
Nosferatu, I checked out the tabs, and for mine, they're pretty close. The only real thing is that for the quarter note, I did eighth note then triplets all in triplet mode, I'll post a pic tomorrow when I'm not so busy.
I agree that the base tempo should be 150, and I strongly recommend we transition in a later part of the song.
Anyways, tomorrow, I have a show with my band (I've been practicing with them, which is why I'm posting late), then studying for a test, so while I'm studying, I'll get the tabs up while I'm studying.
I also can't provide riffs until tomorrow because the songs we're playing are in drop C, while the riff I'm providing are in C standard.
So yeah.

Got it, I'll make the adjustments. I was at work yesterday, so I didn't really get the chance to.

Hey I was just thinking, my riff is at 120 BPM, and Loan's is at 150. For me it seems I can't play my riff faster than 120, so why don't we transition the two with a speedup between them?

Response to The Metal Collab 2009-06-15 23:27:49

Hmm, we could use your riff as an intro riff and create a verse riff and maybe use loansindi's as the chorus riff or bridge to be honest. Though honestly loansindi's riff sounds like it's at 120 anyways. In fact I originally wrote it at 120 and it sounded the same.

I personally thought that Zhuriel's riff would make a cool verse riff. If we go with that, we would only need 2 more riffs as the breakdown and solo riff.
Anyways here's the tab for my riff

it's definitely recorded at 150. Remember though that you had it notated with shorter note values.

Otherwise it sounds like we're close to having this laid out.

Yeppers
Althought we still need 2 riffs for the breakdown and solo
Also, I found an alternative to make my riff sound the same, but have a different tempo
Original alternative is 120 BPM with all triplet eighths at 4/4 time
The other Alternative is 180 BPM with all normal eighths at 12/8 time.

Then it would go with mine. I think yours would be good for the Intro. Don't know about mine though. I'll see if i can come up with some more.

Also, we should start working on a song structure.

And for the drummers: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TYYH8RRJ
with count-in, 183 BPM.

I'll get a riff both in 180BPM 12/8 and 120BPM 4/4
You guys can pick which one you prefer.

Also Gothclaws, we have enough vocalists.
To the vocalists, bring up ideas for lyrics. I know Solus has ideas

So pure, your riff is gonna be intro, zhuriel's is the verse and we liked mine for the chorus, yes?

How long do we want each section to be?

Granted, this is a decision that rests on the lyrics to an extent. If we need another riff for the solo, I can fuck around with some stuff when I get around to recording a real take of my riff. I'm a rhythm player at heart.

Not sure about a breakdown, never done a song with one of those.

This is metal. it really needs to be a proper bass guitar. Right now I've been pigeonholed into doing the bass... speaking of which. fuck, I need to start writing bass parts.

pure, zhuriel, if you had anything in mind for the bass during your riffs, let me know 'cause otherwise I'm gonna fake it based on the tabs in the thread.

not really. it'll fill a similar role, but there's a lot of tonality that just isn't there because of the physical differences between the differences.

Working on the drums on Zhuriel's riffs right now. Also loan, for Zhuriel's riff, you could probably pretty much follow exactly what the guitar's playing (for bass line) and I'll have to listen closer to the other stuff to give you more suggestions.

No, the tones will sound thinner unless you take all the tone out of it (which would sound like shit for this calibur of a song), and a whole octave pitch shift on a recording will just sound choppy and blatantly false. Plus the strings are different and the finger picking would be difficult and most likely more inconsistent, etc. Trust me, for best results, you'll need a bass guitar.

Alright here's my riffs with different beats:
In 4/4 time
In 12/8 time
Also, I don't really have anything in mind for bass, but if I do, I can provide a sample off my VSTi bass, and tabs for it as well.

Just a tab of whatever you're thinking is fine. Make it not terribly complicated, if you're feeling kind.

Otherwise, does this riff still match the tab you put up earlier? 'cause I'll write something based on that.

It will feel physically different, but unless we makes loads of money we won't be performing live together. Also, if you used a 12 string bass guitar you can have more bass notes to choose from! :D

False. a 12 string bass has, either: 1) four tripled strings, with two octaves above the root (meaning into 12 string guitar range) or 2) six double strings, with one octave above each root. There are no additional bass notes.

And that doesn't change the fact the tonality will be very, very different.

Yes, it's still the same riff. I won't be changing it unless someone needs a different riff.
As soon as I come up with an idea, I'll tab it out. Otherwise, go ahead and make a bass riff.

Blah. Okay. Any ideas on segment length?

Here's the drums I wrote earlier to pure metal's part mixed in with the guitar part.

For my riff, I was thinking of having the first part of it twice, then the second part, then the first part again, then transitioning to the Zhuriel's riff for the verse.
Yours and Zhuriel's riff greatly depends on the lyrics. Which is why we need the lyrics. If we were to provide a sample before putting in the lyrics though, we could have the verse riff at 45 seconds and the chorus riff at 30 seconds.
Then we'll still need a breakdown riff and a solo riff.
