The Metal Collab 2009-06-10 03:05:46

So right now I'm really bored of making music on my own, so I figured to start a Metal Collab. What kind of Metal? No idea yet. But hopefully when we start to get this underway, we'll have an idea.
Right now I have it set up for 5 Vocalists, 10 guitarists, 5 bassists, and 5 Drummers, but that can change anytime.
I also have it set up to be 10 minutes, but that may be too long. So I may end up changing that too.
So the main question is: Who's in?
Doesn't matter when it gets finished, perhaps before the end of July.

I'll do a drum track ;) Let me know.

I'm interested in a guitar spot.

I can play a decent rhythm or a lame lead.

I'm in for guitars, in about five weeks, when I can properly use my hand again. I can do everything that's not too fast, and most crazy sound effects (I have a FR). Also I have a boss GT-10, so I can do a wide variety of sounds.

I think prog metal would be best for this, because it allows for a lot of freedom in song structure, length and crazy solos, if some of the really good guitarists join in.

I'm so up for this, but I'm only good for eletronic producing. I don't have a guitar/drums.

Some synths might come in handy, depending on the direction it goes.

Like a Dream Theater-style keyboard solo, now that would be awesome!

lol about the metal drumming for 7 years.

Though seriously, I might be interested. So if someone can, keep me posted I'll look into it.. I can play rhythms, I can harmonize guitar parts, and I can play leads pretty decently. Though my recording capability sucks, but still I can record. Also, I have a good understanding of theory.

Response to The Metal Collab 2009-06-10 23:15:33

Ok, I'm officially in. Unless of course I state otherwise, but seriously. I think right now I'll just be on for a solo, though if you need someone to step in a help on other parts, I'll see what I can do.

Response to The Metal Collab 2009-06-10 23:34:45

I'm up for a Keyboard/Synth/Electronic Drums position. I can also produce the tracks as well, I work with Logic pretty proficiently.

Response to The Metal Collab 2009-06-10 23:41:16

I'll fuck with the drums for ya. :)

Response to The Metal Collab 2009-06-11 00:01:34

I can do vocals :)

You all can join, it's a collab for a reason.
WE could do this one of two ways: break the song into sections where different people play different sections. Or have all the instruments in the song, playing heavy riffs and awesome harmonies together.
The people we have now:
Gorgorothx
Loansindi
Zhuriel
la-yinn
Metaljonus
statueofdiveo
Nosferatu-of-Worms
LaForge
Bobomatic
LightKeeper
and TingTonger
I'll do updates on the page (on my sig)

Response to The Metal Collab 2009-06-11 01:48:27

I'd say break the song into sections, otherwise it might get a little too "clusterfuck-ey". Yeah I said it ;) lol

Alright. Now the question is: How long should the song be?

Response to The Metal Collab 2009-06-11 02:14:57

Well... I mean it all depends on how many people wanna do this thing. With what we're at now, probably at least 5 minutes.

Response to The Metal Collab 2009-06-11 02:44:10

Alright so minimum 5 minutes.
Before we get an exact time, maybe we should come up with some riffs.
Tomorrow when I bring my guitar home, I'll put a riff up on my account, then the rest of you can build your music on that. Guitarists, make your own riffs based on the riff I make. I don't want this song to be completely written by me.
Sound good? This will also make it easier to determine a general length of the song.

I'll update the page

Response to The Metal Collab 2009-06-11 03:03:25

Sounds like a plan, but imma stick to some solo's this time. Since i'm such a fucking wanker lol.

Response to The Metal Collab 2009-06-11 03:44:08

Okay

I and a friend were actually talking about making a heavy metal song.

The problems are this: We don't either a: have a guitar or b: have skills for a guitar.

HOWEVER

We actually came up with lyrics, and they start a little something like this:

"You and I, we must make a pact..."
(small metal solo)
"TO BRING THE VIKINGS BAAAAAAAAAAAACK"

And then we continued to sing about vikings. But hey. If you need a vocalist, and lyrics, I'M YOUR FUCKING GUY.

Response to The Metal Collab 2009-06-11 05:23:34

I think we should divide it up into parts, like Dream Theater's long songs (but heavier).

Also if we're doing prog, i could throw in some Morello-style stuff, I'm quite good at that.

I'm tempted to give this a shot as vocals even though I usually do shit as guitar... been wanting to get my vocals a work out... Go go screams!

We'll see where it goes I guess.
