Okay, so my friend and I have this big arguement over whether the new Halo ODST is an actual game, or expansion pack. I lost the link that said it was an expansion to the game, idiot thinks it automatically means a new game in the series, and also "because it's $60, and expansions don't cost that much."

So can someone please prove this idiot wrong? It's like talking to a fucking brick wall. You know the Halofags.

Even though it is an expansion, I consider it a game on its own due to being a new character, story, location, etc.

It has its own disk and box as well as that outrageous ninety-nine dollar limited edition version with the controller.

its called milking a franchise, $60 for a game with a 3 Hour story and the same Bullshit Half-Assed multiplayer from halo 2 and 3.

I agree with this. Yes, it's an expansion by aspect but a new game by standard. New pretty much everything except universe.

Yeah, they said it was an expansion, but could you explain any other reasons to believe it's JUST an expansion besides that?

I agree with this. Technically it is an expansion because it expands on the current Halo world and what is happening with Orbital Shock Troopers and all that. However, it does not install to your HD or place a new campaign option in the Halo 3 menu. The argument you and your friend are having is irrelevant because everyone has a different point of view. In my mind its a new game, but for some people (your friend) its an expansion.

It's a standalone expansion meaning it doesn't need Halo: 3 to run, which means it could be confused as both a sequel and an expansion. Which is what your argument turned into.

I can see why it's seen as both though. I see it as a new game personally.

I hope it's long and worth the wait.
And it better not whore itself and make itself a primary xbox360 game (not saying Halo 3 shouldn't of been.)

You see son,

when microsoft make a hit series and completely tit up the third one, they decide they need to rectify this mistake by making us fork out another load of our money. It's an expansion pack to a bad game. Deal.

That depends, if you already own Halo 3, it's more of an expansion, however if you don't own Halo 3, then it's like buying a full game.

You see the thing is Halo ODST is only the same with Halo 3 in the sense that they both have the same multiplayer. The main difference in the two games is the campaign (and ODST's Firefight mode). So if you already own Halo 3, then you're basically just paying for the new campaign and Firefight, if you don't own Halo 3, then you're getting all new stuff.

This guy right here has the answer. It depends on whether you have the game or not. You get everything Halo 3 had and every new map as well as a new campaign.

It comes in a box, and on a disc. It also happens before Halo 3.

I'm going to say it's an expansion.

The confusion is really a result of its manner of announcement. When it was originally announced, it was supposed to only be an expansion with a campaign that lasted a few hours. Later on (not exactly sure when), Bungie and Microsoft changed their story and started advertising it as a new game, with a campaign comparable to the other Halo games.

Confusing? Not really. It's as the others said, if they held true to their original word of it being an expansion, they couldn't charge so much for it. Also, a campaign comparable to the others? Sorry, but a 3 hour campaing =/= the usual 8-9 hour campaigns of the main games.

Why are wasting your time reading this?

yep, milking a franchise, I guess they must be following nintendos bullshit example by making the same game over and over, theres over 100 mario games out there. Hope the same doesnt happen to halo.
