Yesterday at the WWDC thing, Apple announced the release of Safari 4 and I love it.

It's much quicker than Google Chrome or Firefox and the tabs have been changed from the title bar to where you all liked them.

Pros:
* Faster than Firefox and Google Chrome
* Tabs have been changed and load up quicker
* Interface has been changed slightly (but not much)
* Top sights load faster
* Refreshing a page is so instant you don't even see the page blink (or at least on my computer which is pretty average)
* The pages load quickly so you don't need to wait long for ads to finish loading
* YouTube pages load up quicker and take less time to buffer long videos (occasionally)

Cons:
Haven't noticed a lot other than a crash when I first started up Safari but it's running extremely smoothly now.

Download here if you want or just stay with your normal browser.

I probably did notice some other cons in Safari 4 but I forgot them since I've only seen good.

Faster that Chrome? Fuck, that's hard to believe. I'll give it a try. But if it's anything near iTunes, then I'm uninstalling it fast as I can.

Meh. My parents just got it and it doesn't seem that fast.

I hate Macs anyways.

The following sentence is true. The previous sentence is false. O_o PARADOX!

When I first tried it out it loaded pages as fast as when you press enter in an instant messaging chat. It was screaming fast. It's almost as fast right now but it slowed down by a few milliseconds.

It's faster than Chrome on my computer and on the other one I tried, too.

I just hope I don't need the fucking Apple Automatic Update bullshit for this. Even if it is faster, I don't think I'll stop using Chrome unless it's better for viewing media. Chrome is built around running Flash, Java and whatever quickly. IE and FF are made just for viewing web pages.

I've been using the Beta for a while, the only con is the lack of a loading bar on pages.
But I've gotten used to it, and don't notice it anymore.

Ehh, I've never liked Safari. I just don't like the way it looks, among other things. I've never really noticed any differences in loading times using Safari, but I have been frustrated by Safari's performance several times (I don't remember what was pissing me off, I haven't used it in a while). I'll stick with FF. I like my skins and add-ons.

Here's what I've noticed:

Webpages load faster. Though the actual software can be, at times, slower.

It's actually equal (if not better) aesthetically than Google Chrome. It works better with the Windows theme I'm using.

Newgrounds doesn't load properly. There are gray bars on the sides of the page.

IT seems more computer intensive than Chrome.

It also seems to have taken many of it's designs from Google Chrome. Both functionally and aesthetically.

I also timed both Safari 4, and Chrome at how fast they load various websites:

Torrentz.com -
Safari: 3.61 seconds
Chrome: 8.47

Facebook.com -
Safari: 2.95
Chrome: 4.92

UPS.com -
Safari: 3.67
Chrome: 11.03

So, yes, Safari 4 is over twice as fast as Google Chrome.

I also noticed that pages you have recently loaded come up almost instantly with Safari 4. I'm definitely going to use this.

I'm gonna try and see how quick Safari 4 is on my dad's new laptop. Internet Explorer 8 is extremely fast on it and Google Chrome is fast on it as well and since Safari is twice as fast as Chrome and 8 times faster than IE8, I'm sure my dad will change his mind about using IE8.

I love the new Safari 4. I'm ditching both Chrome and Firefox for it.

It's definitely faster than any other browser out there, and even the small aspects that I really care about in a browser are all working impeccably great.

I can consolidate my browser to increase vertical screen real estate like I do in Firefox finally here in Safari. New tabs also works amazing, spell check is superb, the interface is clean and efficient.

I have no complaints at all. The perfect browser has arrived, and I'm pleasantly surprised.

I'm trying it out, definitely not living up to the claims of being faster than Firefox and Chrome. Safari is in fact significantly slower than FireFox and Chrome when it comes loading sites with no cache. So far it has not only loaded pages slower, but it is also failing to load all of the page elements and images without a refresh.. With cache it is actually about the same, but the initial loading of content is pretty annoying on this browser.

As soon as Chrome gets more features it will dominate the browser world, but for now I will stick with Firefox 3, 3.5 is just around the corner!

Ok, Safari 4 is also faster at Flash and such, but doesn't load images correctly sometimes. Newgrounds has big grey blocks on the side for me and it's really fucking annoying.

Finally I found one complaint after toying around with the browser intensely.

The rendering engine is different from Safari 3, which I absolutely adored for using the special looking Mac buttons and graphics.

Now there are some few visual glitches such as the blue "selector" staying static when you're trying to jump from one forum to another.

I really wish there was an option to have Mac styled graphics.

Can you post a screenshot? I'm not getting that at all, though I am using a Mac (and I think you implied you were using Windows).

NewGrounds works well with me. Screenshot of blocks? I'd like to see them.

From what I understand, on the Windows version of Safari 4, if you open up the preferences, you can manually adjust the setting for anti-aliasing of fonts and alter certain graphical displays.

I can't speak from experience of course, as I've used only the Mac version of Safari 4, which automatically sets the anti-aliasing of fonts to its highest setting -- not objectionable, but certainly different from other browsers. I guess I can see how it would be offputting to somebody who's only ever experienced spartan unaltered fonts in a web browser.

Here's a screenshot of the bars I mentioned. They are always the same size and shape on every page except the Post Reply page on NG. I've reset my cache, and restarted the browser and neither removed them. The same problem happened to Luxury-Yacht's sig.

Also, I have yet another problem with this browser. Every time I open it, it opens about two dozen tabs of popular websites (that I do not visit). Is there any way to turn this off in the Windows version?

Any ideas on how to fix either, or both, problem? If I can't find a fix, then I'll stick with Chrome.
