To the detractors of the patriot I ask you this, have YOUR personal freedoms been encroached upon?
No, they haven't..and if they were, the FBI doesn't care about you having cybersex on AIM, so get over it.

If you remain silent so long as it does not happen to you, by the time it does, there will be no one to listen.

This isn't 1984, the people protesting the patriot act aren't freedom fighters, they're morons who don't understand it.
The patriot act prevents terrorist actions, without compromising innocent parties freedoms.

Who is to say that John Ashcroft would not reassign a few officers to seize items from the home of a political enemy, to blacklist him as a supporter of terrorism? This is not a perfect world. There are people to manipulate the system.

Oh please, he's not Thomas Jefferson using the 'Alien and Sedition Acts' to imprison a man whose wife he was sleeping with.

So really, nothing would stop him from detaining a political enemy. Nothing besides your trust in his purity as a man with immense power.

Nothing stops me from posting porn all over these forums, I have every ability to.
Does that mean I'm inherently dispositioned towards doing it?

Not every person is given the gift of restraint, and it is foolish to assume that NO ONE will abuse this act.

Well, the unchecked and unopposed detainments of two United States citizens, held indefinitely and without access to a lawyer or a trial by jury as provided in the Constitution...that certainly moves us forward a step.

O.k., if your so brilliant, explain what the patriot act is then.
The patriot act prevents terrorist actions, without compromising innocent parties freedoms.
Then what's to stop this from becoming a repeat of the Salem Witch trials?

No, it means that his own party might kick him out of the top spot, but it doesn't look as if he will, now.

I have absolutly no problem with someone wanting to play devil's advocate in a debate. What aggravates the hell out of me are people like RIPclock and NEMESiSZ who do so just to piss people off.
In short.... if your not going to contribute something to a debate, please don't post.

OH. and btw, I honestly believe the Patriot act is neccessary, since let's see: Have you rights been infringed upon? NO!
Has it led to terrorrist arrests? YES!(Change that to terrorrist suspect arrests).
I do not however see a neccesity for Patriot 2 at this point of time.
(And just about Blair, I can't stop laughing, he's making the BBC APOLOGIZE, serves those liberal bastards right)

Many many people have been denied habeas corpus for more than 24 hours, many of them innocent.

You are a fucking idiot for supporting the Patriot Act. I was just reading that dam thing and it can be misused so much. Just like in the definition of a Domestic Terrorists, a person appear to be intended to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion. Good reason right because we don't want those bad influences do we? We don't want people protesting down the street screaming their beliefs, now do we? It will and probably already has been misused in that way. Who is to say their not intimidating anyone? Let me read into this a little more....
