You can get free spyware and anti-virus programs online that will make your computer safe.

It's true that Macs don't get viruses as easily as PC's, but it has nothing to do with the actual computer itself. The only reason Macs don't get viruses is because the user base for Macs is much smaller than the user base for PC's, therefore people who make viruses only make them for PC's because making them for Macs really wouldn't be worth their time.

FYI, Macs can get viruses just as easily as PCs. There's a Mac Trojan in the iWork 2009 torrent, from what I hear.

If you own a Windows PC, it's just as good as a Mac. Get an anti-virus program, and run scans with all of them. Leave your computer for about 30-45 minutes, and then go back. The scans should be complete, and then you can tell the programs to delete the viruses. Job done.

I'd recommend getting ThreatFire, HijackThis and AVG 8.5 Free.

I can't find the download link for HijackThis, but look on Download.Com. It's free as well. Once you've got all that done, make sure to download TuneUp Utilities 2009. There might be traces of the viruses still on your hard drive. Get TuneUp to fix the registry and defrag the disks. TuneUp isn't free. Just download the trial. It lasts 30 days, and then you decide what to do after that. Buy it or uninstall it. Don't matter.

You're computer is infected because you're a dumbass that likes to download random shit like there's no tomorrow. I hear that porn and warez are the easiest and most common ways to get infected.

Both PC's and Mac's are safe. You just have to go the extra mile in maintaining a PC. If you go and download a bunch of anti virus programs that one guy said was good, it might end up killing you. Best thing is to talk to a professional about guarding your PC from viruses, and know where they are coming from. A mac is safe right out of the box because it's meant for different people than PC users. Of course you'll be paying more, but you could argue that the extra $500 put into a mac is the same $500 that goes into maintaining a PC through anti virus programs, replacement parts, repair guys, etc. While those who know enough about PC's to build and maintain their own for cheap certainly have a point in complaining about Apple's extreme prices, they don't account that most of the world doesn't know a thing about what's going inside their PC. Those who know nothing about computers would probably benefit more from having a mac, as there is less frustration. If you have the knowledge, certainly nothing wrong with having a PC.

That was months ago, and it was blown out of proportion. Only 20k people got it, all of them performing in illegal activities anyway. Easily removable too, didn't need a virus program to get rid of it. But yea, certainly was a freak-occurrence.

Stupid people are unable of protecting their computers from viruses. It's as easy as not downloading that file, or at least researching it before you do. Or even just buying an antivirus program and running a scan every few weeks. You aren't getting viruses because of Windows, you are getting viruses because of your own stupidity.
