Don't believe me?

Click here for the video; I apologize for the shitty ad that shows up first.

Washington DC has already taxed shopping bags. Ireland charges 33 cents a bag causing customers to bring their own bags.

My take on this? The idea is as absurd as the dumbasses who came up with this idea. We've got rising food costs, the recession and a bunch of other bullshit. We don't need something this unnecessary.

Or perhaps the taxes aren't high enough already for our friends in government?

I can see why they're doing this but it's not going to make that much of an evironmental impact when you compare it to industrys and cars etc :/ step in the right direction I guess

Yeah, well they already charge a nickle per grocery bag here in Ontario. And I heard on the news that they've banned plastic grocery bags completely in Toronto, and are trying to make it happen elsewhere in the province. Whatever helps the environment, man. Even if it's a small effort, better than not doing anything, I suppose.

Like honestly, it's not a big deal by bringing your own bags to a grocery store. If people are going to get so worked up over by something so simple, then lol @ the world.

My nearby Sobeys charges 5cents a bag, those bastards.
However, I do the "self-checkout" so when it asks me to key in the number of bags im using, I put in "0".

It's a brilliant idea. As an Irishman, I can say that a huge amount of rubbish and waste were being caused by excess bags being thrown out, not to mention how harmful they are to the environment if they are disposed of correctly. People gladly bring their own bags, it's not like it's a bad thing. Pay the extra $2 or whatever it is for a few bags and keep them and reuse them. Waste was the issue in Ireland, not a crumbling economy.

I'll make you a sig. Pm me or visit this thread.

That's a good thing. If that is true, people will bring in reusable bags. This will save unnecessary plastic being discarded.

Remember, plastic takes millions of years to decompose and most people are lazy as fuck not to recycle plastic.

At least we save a fuck load of oil from plastic bags.

I believe Ontario charges a nickle per plastic bag. That is a good step to saving the environment.

Long story short: I support this action

I don't see what's so bad about bringing your own bags. It saves plastic/paper or whatever the bag is made of.

Damnit, why didn't I think of that? Do you mind if I borrow your technique, if anyone asks I'll say I learned it from the wise master sneak a toke.

People will always do what they think is in their best best interest, based on incentives. When, they don't do what is actually in their best interest, they need to be given a push in the right direction.

Well, I guess I have to start bringing my own bags from now on. But it was going to happen sometime anyway, though.

Let's just say, "Fuck the Environment", and give more funding to the space industry so we can move on to bigger and better things.

They should do what they do where I live, Alberta (Canada). Most stores sell linen grocery bags for 1$ that you can re-use instead of having plastic bags that you throw away. It helps the environment.

They have reusable bags in almost every store in my town, but with no tax on the plastic ones people aren't really buying them.

And if I may everyone, we always could use the plastic bags more than once.

That'll be slightly good for people and slightly bad.

Positives: Now people will start bringing their own bags and the store will make a bit more money selling reusable bags now. It should also allow plastic bags and paper bags to be not made and be pushed towards being used on more useful things that aren't wasting.

Negatives: People will try to walk out of store without paying, thieving chances will be a little higher.

PA has 7 cents on the dollar sales tax that I can't deduct from my yearly expenditure come tax time. I'd support using reusable bags, except theres always a person using them in the check out line and they stop for twenty minutes to berate the people behind him about how we might as well be lighting forests on fire or something.

Yeah, this has been the law here in Ireland for a few years now. At first everyone was like 'fuck this shit', but after a month nobody really gave a flying fuck.

They started charging in a few major stores in UK a few months ago. It's not really that big of a deal because their only like a penny most of the time. I rather pay then carry around a bunch of change which I will just throw away.
