Source? I'd love to believe this, but the number of times I've been taken in... Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age are two of my favourite RPGs in existence.

Oh YAY, I loved the first one, especially the battles, at first I was like "OMG it's sort of 3D" and the way the characters leapt at their enemies instead of just standing there like on FF was amazing.

I also liked the Pokemon sort of way that you could use Psyenergy powers outside of battle, as well as gather up all those little Djinn to get progressively more powerful attacks.

...Hell, I'm going to go play that shit right now!

And if we run outta bullets? Heh, baby, they're gonna wish we hadn't....

Oh boy, more <Genre>, just what we need. I can't wait to <a ction Taken In Game> with no reward at the end. It's like people play games for fun or something.

Plus, there wasn't even really any grinding in golden sun, if you played any of those games.

Hopefully they retain the "You played our previous games? Well have some rewards on us!" mentality.

Although a little underused, the game transfer/password (although fucking long if you didn't have a cable) was a brilliant idea.

And if Pokemon can use the GBA slot to communicate with old games, why can't GS?

Probably among the best announcements in my opinion, an actual surprise.

I think this is a very likely concept, what with the whole GBA slot-insertion that the DS and the DS Lite have. I would imagine that there will be a password option as well, for those poor saps that got conned into purchasing a DSi (and the demo is being played on a DSi as well, so I think it's a high probability).

So what kind of reward do you get for beating an eight hour shooter? Does the protagonist pop out of your television to jack you off?

I was so happy that I had to do a drawing, which I posted today. (See below, or full image here)

I have waited for a new instalment in to the Golden Sun saga for so long, that I almost literally shat and creamed my pants at the same time. It was seriously surprising when they suddenly popped the trailer in to the screen when I was watching Nintendo's conference through Gamespot's E3 Live Stream.

This is seriously must-buy for me.

I think it's awesome but there is one thing that pisses me off, it's in 3D, and since it's on the DS it's lousy 3D, couldn't they just make it in beautiful 2D instead of this shitty 3D ?

I have to agree with this, but I think the 3D could offer more interesting aspects to the cutscenes. Maybe make them cinematic or so? But with beautiful 2D sprites they could do so effin' epic job, taking in to attention how epic the sprites in the previous games were with such limited hardware.

But I'll forgive them as long as the gameplay is fun and battles do not get slower like in quite most of the "from 2D to 3D" RPG adaptions.

THIS.

Even on the GBA the 2D was effin beautiful.

It's a shame it was replaced by lousy 3D.

2D games can look good, just look at Muramasa on the Wii.

Exactly. Detailed 2D beats any lousy 3D at any given moment.
Even on today's standards Golden Sun's 2D graphics are outstanding.

The real thing I'm worried about is that I hope it won't affect the length of the game, as 3D surely takes up more space from the given amount of memory than 2D. Except if they find a nifty way to avoid this from happening, like how they used quite the same graphics for most psynergies and djinnis in the last two. Like Wish psynergy and Spritz djinni looked the same when you looked at their animations.

You'd be surprised at how much data they can stuff into those little packs. Like Disgaea? There's 32 regular item slots with 1000 stored item slots, plus 255 character spots that can each have ten items.
Each of those items has up to like 30 slots (or something) where each slot can have 1 out of 15 or so different abilities, which vary in level from 1 to 256 (I think). There are about 100 or so different character classes (or more) which each have varying stat growths, and it has actual voiceovers. Add to that about 200 unique special attacks and spell effects, plus tons of character slots and this game is starting to look like it wouldn't fit on a computer. And it's a decently long game.
So don't worry about the length of the game. At the length of the other two games, this game could be equally as long, and still have full voiceovers and unique animations for each spell/djinn unleash. Maybe even a few cutscenes. Heck, those graphics are kind of bad for DS. This game will probably have at least 80 hours of content.

Do you think that with the Gba port at the bottom of the Ds it will transfer data from Two over to Three?

I doubt it. First off, it's Nintendo, so they'll make it have a tremendous advantage, but only if you use a DSi, which means no GBA port. Also, the data transfer transferred everything directly into GS 2, levels, exp, djinn, items and so on. Since you're using different characters in 3, that data would be irrelevant and useless.
Of course, it could unlock extra features in 3 for having completed data, but GS 2 is so old (relatively) that there's no point in Nintendo trying to sell it again.

Whilst I agree with this, this principle only works on killer apps. As much as I like Golden Sun, by no means is it a console shifter.

Pokemon on the other hand, would surprise me immensely if it didn't have DSi exclusivity.

You used different characters in GS2, but it was still applicable.

It's not about shifting old units, it's about fan service and futureproofing.

But the data didn't affect the first four in that game (other than their names), only the group from the original inherited that stuff. Since these people are apparently their descendants, the original characters will all be dead, hmmm? That's why I think the data transfer won't happen, but a reward thing could.
