So, my friend at school said that we could live without computers.. But isn't the reason Y2K almost happened because all computers where just going to stop working? Therefore we can't live without computers, correct? I mean, if all computers just stopped working right now we would just die because planes would fall out of the sky and kill us.. And we would go insane because we can't get on the internet?
Do you think you could live without computers?

A few hundred thousand, maybe a million would die off pretty quickly, relaying information internationally would be harder times a million, and you would lose all access to the outside world.
In my opinion, not easily.

Well, I think your friend was talking about the laptop/desktop kind of computers. If you want to actualy get that in-depth about it, then no, we couldn't live without computers.

The reason was that all the computers would malfunction and nuclear missiles would launch by accident resulting in the world turning into a barren wasteland or some shit.

Simple answer?...
No...
The world would fall apart rather quickly...
Planes run on computers, power plants are run by computers, emergency vehicles are directed around by computers...
Sure... We could survive... The main issue being greed; people would have just lost billions of cash and would either be angry or wanting more money or something in return...
People today just couldnt live together without our money grabbing society in peace... You'd have to literally change them permanently...

Yes and no. By living without computers as in physically, yes. We aren't dependent on computers for survival. Emotionally, yes, I'm sure many now a days rely on computers for sources of fun, or news or communication. Without computers most of us could not survive emotionally without them. I could with some time though.

He is kind of stupid sometimes..
At school, we where doing a biography about different states and my teacher said that if we dressed up we would get extra credit but she said that we can't dress up as a stereotype.. So, I was doing my on Rhode Island and said I was going to dress up as Peter, from Family Guy, and he said celebrity's are stereotypes..
So basically he said that the definition of stereotype is a celebrity.

lol, and you actually believed that some programmer actually typed (theory, not code):
if systemtime = 1/1/00 00:00 then: blow the fuck out of everything!
its fucking ridiculous it might act a little weird when we switch onto +1 digit tough, but more like not fiting in the space anymore. anyway, the year 10.000 is pretty far away so that wont happen soon.

Lol, I doubt it would be the end of civilization... I'm sure we'd manage, very easily in fact.
Though it would be very boring.

Live? No.
Eh, I think that is a relative term. A lot of people would say they don't feel alive using technology as a crutch.

Nowadays too many important things run on computers. What many don't realize is that computers and the internet are used for much more then just entertainment.

Yeh I guess so, but if computers became non-existant, it would leave a huge hole in my life :/

Computers were invented in the early 40's... Many people alive on this planet lived in a time without computers.
There is absolutely no chance that humanity would suffer at t he loss of all computers. Sure it would fuck things up pretty bad, but within a few months everything would be relatively normal.

When you have a gun, take away the trigger, does the bullet fire? No. When you have a stick of TNT and you take away the fuse, does it go boom? No.
When there are no computers controlling nukes, they don't randomly decided to explode... Duh.
However, the economy would all but be destroyed, we would definatly not die... we would be in a world of shit. The strong, physicaly strong, will be supreme as they can take what they want form others. There would be a shit load of chaos for a large amount of time, but we wouldn't die... not all of us

Nope. I can barely go a day without the internet, just a day. I freak out. Let alone the whole computer itself...

We did easily BEFORE it was invented, but now it's existent and we're so dependent on it... It would be a huge adjustment, especially because of all of the government information and emails and such that's on here. We would LIVE, but it would be hell on earth until we adjusted.

Yeah, it would probably cause those deaths, but they would die if there weren't any computers anyway, so...yeah, it'd be bad.

I'm sure we could live without computers, people did for thousands of years before them, it would just make things a lot more inconvenient.
