I get up and fix something to eat during a commercial break or often change channels. I go to the theater late so I don't have to watch the ads and can just watch the movie. I use callerID to screen strange numbers so I don't have to deal with telemarketers. And, yes, I run adblock for all the websites I visit. Are you not guilty of any one of these things?
I fail to see how these things are relevant. However, there's a difference. In the first scenario, the ad is still displaying. In the second, people at other times have seen the ads, and you're visiting at a time without them. Great. Passive, not aggressive. Caller ID? Good for you, nobody likes spam.
The whole reason someone runs adblocker is because they aren't interested in the ads. So by finding ways to get around adblocker, you're targeting an audience who doesn't want your business in the first place. Does that make sense?
I'm sure that he understand that, but you don't necessarily need to be interested in the ads for him to earn money. You just need to view one. Also, the new ads involve a new kind of thing - not dumb RPG or hentai site, but the Newgrounds store. Does that make sense?
I mean, you make a living off two things. Random flash artists submitting expense free content that generates interest for the site, and jamming products into peoples faces. BUT HEY - everybody plugs ads into everything anymore, and it sure beats working two jobs. But I think that whether people want to view those ads is their choice... and why shouldn't it be? Viewing the site is free. If they're not interested, they're not obligated.
He doesn't earn money off people submitting stuff to the site, he loses money. Also, no products are jammed into non-adblock-users' faces. Sure, it's your choice whether or not you want to view the site. It's also true that viewing the site is free - for you. For Tom, prices are huge, and he needs to find a way to pay for those. He uses ads.
So, if you want to block ads, congratulations, but remember this: if enough people block ads, Newgrounds may not be around much longer.
