If you can't make a positive contribution to a topic, don't post.
It's kind of already there if you think about it.

Irrelevant, he stated this is a new rule, and it's a specific phrase, there should be more broadcasting of this.
I don't really go on the Internet, so what the heck is /thread?

It's supposed to mean your post should be taken as the last one of the thread because you think you hit the nail on the head...
Example :
EyeLovePoozy : I'm going to make a new rule.
Me : You can't make new rules because you can't even follow the current ones yourself. /thread
I am trying to imply nobody else should post because I'm absolutely right so we should just let the thread die now.

Can do, sir.
Bread makes you FAT!?

Sometimes users will type "/thread" when they feel there is no further discussion to be had within said topic, only posting this line which is considered a one liner post and can also be viewed as a form of back seat modding.

I see it as an interpretation of an existing rule...

I still don't see how it could be considered one line posting or backseat modding...
If I write out an entire paragraph and put /thread on the end that's not a one line post.
/thread never implied the thread should be locked either, just ignored, that isn't backseat modding that's more community suggestion.
Well everyone, you heard the man. No more /thread :(
What if we use it in a different context?
/thread is now and was bannable. I am a Happy camper. Thanks for making this day better. I think
that is a very promising rule. Hopefully that will make people refrain from droping One Liners. Once
him or her stat there "One Liner" they always seem to show up later in the Thread and repeat the
retarded offense once again. This has been a good week in all, It seems that alot of Mods are trying
ecstatically to make the BBS Fun, less annoying place to come to. They are trying to clean up the BBS
and clarify all the rules even the once that are not directly stated in the Rules. Therefore taking away
dumbass excuses for using the Over used terms you see on the bbs. so in a word...
Thanks

Hey Poozy, I want to allow one exception to the /thread rule you just made because I totally agree with most of it. IF the topic starter asked a question, and then a user answered it, and the topic starter said:
"OMG, thank you so much, I'm going to go get a mod to lock this now that my questions been answered
/thread"
I'd be ok with that. THAT is the ONLY circumstance where it doesn't bother me.
This isn't open for debate CanadianSnowman nor did I ask your opinion. This isn't a utopic, open discussion thread where opinionated users such as yourself can spout off at the mouth making ludicrous accusations or ridiculous observations. This is a heads up thread and nothing more.
Go blog your opinions about it or BAAAAWWWWW some more in Jonas' thread.

This is the most common form of /thread that I witness.
Either way, I could go on defending this further but it's actually fairly simple to conclude this...
Just obey it, it's not hurting you or anyone else, if you don't like the "new rule" don't post. It's not like not being allowed to type /thread is detrimental to your BBS experience, unless you're a total asshole.
Simple.

Er people only really use "/thread" to try and be funny, and it doesn't work, so wheres the problem?

Perhaps the more appropriate way of saying that is something like "I don't see what else there is to discuss because none of you are capable of refuting my post." Then, there's still room for debate, and boy does it show you for what you are. (Doesn't that sound pompous as hell? :P)
Anyway, its rarely the case in any discussion that you should or can say AND NOW ITS OVER. And when you can walk away from the conversation, there's no point anyway.

Heh yeah, most of the instances I see the dreaded /thread, it's done in the same fashion as "epic win" or "eipc fail". Like if one person makes a high quality and humorous photoshop in a photoshop thread, and another person quotes it with an "/thread" type comment, seems to me like more "+1 posting". Nice work implementing another rule that falls within the range of "common sense" (but if it needs to be said then it needs to be said).

That's exactly what I like seeing. Instead of having commandments for rules like "THOU SHALT NOT POST THE N-WORD", now we have "THOU SHALT NOT BE SUCH A FUCKING MORON". Me likey.

You're a fucking moron.
Finally, I was wondering when this kind of rule would be made. I was getting tired of seeing all those "/thread' posts.
I fully support this rule.
At 6/3/09 08:41 AM, EyeLovePoozy wrote: DO NOT post "/thread" anymore. It's not funny, you're not being witty, it can be construed as an attempt to derail the thread you are posting it in and also deemed as a backseat moddy type post.
This thread is the heads up and your only preemptive warning, after this I will begin handing out 1 day bans to all users I see posting that way and will double the ban each time they repeat the behavior, 2 days for the second time, 4 days for the third, 8 days for the fourth etc.
Have a nice day!
Smart asses posting "/thread" in this thread will be banned in an excessive fashion, lol.
Good rule, I at first enjoyed posting /thread, but now it gets quite annoying seeing that to be the first magical reply of most posts
"Without love there is no hate"
"But good sir isn't love what bring everyone together?"
"To only pretend to love each other when they despise they're very existance... fools"

tsk-tsk
INSULTING or harassing the moderators or administrators.
Also, in response to GoS. It's all in the context man, you know the deal. The problem is the other 99 out of 100 times "/thread" is used that I'm referring to.

Actually it's a public forum meaning it pretty much is exactly that you fool.

I smell a ban... or at least a thorough pimp slap. Whichever is cooler.

I'm simply enlightening the users who weren't reading that out of your post where you said you would ban it 100% of the time and you really mean 99.8% of the time. That's all.
I like explaining the context of the situation to the usuers because they're less likely to be "butthurt"
Also, can we ban the word butthurt next, I think its homophobic. :P
ironic and sarcastic context +++ cpt obvious in one move, I'm on a roll today.
I can see why you are doing this, but shouldn't it be more concerned with the misuse of it?
If you will excuse the example;
Threadopener:
how big is the earth?
geek1852682369847698...:
40,000 km around, 12,000km diameter, ect...
/thread
Here it is used to say this is all the information you need, there is no further need for this thread. (Thus, end thread)
A miss use would be as follows:
Threadopener:
How's the best video game character?
Halonerd:
Master cheif p00nz @$$, hez w1ck3d @w3s0m3!
/thread!
FFnerd:
Sephiroth!
/thread!
Here it is used as a lame attempt at humor.
Meh, your call really, just my opinion.
And thus defy, the tyrannous stars...
(P.S. Ignore the mail watermark for now, I'll be removing it soon!)
Why can't we use it in this situation.
User 1 : What is 2(2+2) ?
User 2 : 8 /thread
Whenever someone posts "/thread" or "</thread>" or anything like that it just shows everyone that they're a self-righteous prick. Also, CanadianSnowman is complaining that it should be in the rules, but Wade created a topic a while back addressing topic titles and no one has yet to complain about that rule (in a thread). I'm glad that you addressed it Poozy, things like this really need to be taken care of.
Hey Poozy can we have sigs though? If you dont like it just say and I will change it back...
At 6/3/09 10:48 AM, wedgeman wrote: Meh, your call really, just my opinion.
I see your point but that fact remains that it is not appropriate to post "/thread" unless you can actually end the thread.
Thing I never liked about the /thread posts was that people say something and they are completely into themselves thinking no one can argue against their point and put /thread. most of the time the thread doesnt end and they look like a right twat.
When this post hits 88 mph, you're going to see some serious friendship.
