My mom hurt my brother...

My older brother was just playing guitar, minding his own buisness. Then my mom comes in his room and yells at him for not doing his hw. He had done his homework, so he says so. Then my mom yells at him, calling him a fucking liar. He begins to cry as the yelling gets worst. he keeps saying that he did it while crying, he also is saying dont break my guitar. Now, guitar is a very important part of my bros life. Infact it is his life. NExt i hear slapping noises (very painful sounding ones). Hes just saying the same reasoning over and over... but she wont listen. After the beating (which may have contained more than slaps im not sure) is over, my brothers is just lying on the couch crying.

What should i do? Im pretty sure it was just slapping, so i dont think the authorities need to be alerted.
