Check out this page:

http://marketshare.hitslink.com/browser-
market-share.aspx?qprid=2

IE is rising in market share, and since IE 8 released it has risen 20%

IE 8 is a huge addition to IE and saved IE's life. The features, speed, and security really brought Microsoft's browser back in the game. If it were still IE 7, Fire Fox would have won and IE would be basically out.

I held on, first of all because all programs released for PC, if were to integrate with a browser, are automatically made to work with IE on a minimum for how big the market share is and that it is made by Microsoft. Plus, IE isn't and never was that bad in any version, but Fire Fox 3.0 I hear is way better than IE, but now IE 8 is comfortable with the market and the world likes it, and so it's market share continually rises. IE 8 is better than Fire Fox, period.

So, now for the evil tech hackers to start overloading viruses made for IE like they did for Fire Fox 3!

Just because many people like IE than FireFox doesn't mean its better. Plus, half of the people on IE don't know how to change browsers, and switched from a crappy one to a semi-crappy one.

IE was and is a bad browser when compared to Firefox, Opera, Chrome, etc. It's slower, not W3C compliant, has weird ways of rendering code, the list goes on...

I agree IE is getting better though, its just not there yet.

People using IE don't NEED to change browsers. I have used Fire Fox, and honestly, what is so much better about Fire Fox? When browsers are similar, it comes down to compatability and integration.

I would say people using IE 7 should switch browsers, to the browser called IE 8 (which is not semi-crappy you Fire Fox fan boy)! Before IE 8 though, Fire Fox was a very good option and I even tested it because I was attracted to it for its good reviews. I just sticked with IE 6 though because I needed to use programs that were most efficient (I had a pentium 2). Then I got my new computer, and I did not choose to use Fire Fox because I saw no problems with IE 7, but at the time Fire Fox was better for security and speed but I still liked IE because I was familiar with the layout and it was best for integration and compatability aswell. Then IE 8 came out, and I was just like OMG this owns the shit.

Most people use IE because they're dumb as shit on a computer and don't even know what different types of web browsers are. They just use the default one, Internet Explorer.

Well I am far from dumb as shit on a computer. I am not accusing Fire Fox users for being stupid or suing the wrong browser, because Fire Fox IS very good, and you insult IE users?

Maybe Fire Fox users havn't tried IE 8? Fire Fox created tabs, but IE tagged on and now tabs have better funcionality in IE 8.

Just tell me the things about Fire Fox 3.0 that make it better than IE 8 and I will consider it. Just tell me, seriosly.

Chrome all the way.

I like browsers like firefox/chrome for that sleek feeling they give. It just looks less cluttered.

Any possible feature in IE 8 will be integrated into Firefox, either in the next update, or as an add-on.

Firefox is open source

Whatever the version of IE, it will NEVER have these two characteristics.

Dammit...open source. IE 8 still beats FF in speed, memory usage, crashing recovery, business orientation, and still the only one to have Web Slices and accelerators (but as you say, open source for FF, meaning accelrators might already be available from 3rd party companies)

FF is open source, which is great as you say, has a better add on and update system, and a couple features IE doesn't have.

I guess for a tech enthusiast I must say Fire Fox is a bit better, but over all I still like IE 8 more after the extra research I did and what you told me.

WAIT HOLD ON ...DID YOU SAY SLOWER? The code thing is acceptable, but IE is a very light program, especially IE 6 and IE 8. It is proved IE is faster than Fire Fox, and Fire Fox 2 used up to 1 GB of ram, so the good fire fox really just came out. About the others though, there is a reason they arn't used so much, and I may do some research on them, but their market share is so low because some times things are used more because they are better, not because every one is an idiot. Chrome is known to have issues with compatability; I was going to get it but this info was a let down. IE 8 and not switching.

Good stuff, but this page applies to Fire Fox 2 and below. Get one for FF 3 and we shall see. I am on IE's side but this page is an over exaggeration when it comes to FF 3.

IE8 might be WAY better then IE7, but Firefox is still faster than IE and the only reason IE is gaining market share is because it just came out and people are trying it. Personally, I think Microsoft should hire a 3'rd party to handle Internet browsers and E-mail, preferably Mozilla.

Firefox meets the standards for rendering web pages properly better then even IE8, as well.

I keep trying to intall Flash Player in Fire Fox that I am trying out to see how good 3.0 really is, and it keeps crashing during the virus scanning! Wow, so much for FF.

HP Pavilion with Vista. The download downloaded the file even though it was crashing and I installed flash. Now I am going to compare speed.

IE8 runs smoothly on my new computer, but locks up and freezes a lot on my shitty old laptop. I use FireFox on my shitty laptop because it just seems to run more smoothly on it.

Ok so I used Fire Fox and speed is the same. When you click the icon for IE 8 theactual windows opens right away and the images/words take a bit longer. Firefox takes a couple seconds to open the window, but the info opens faster. This is a trick on Mozilla's side, and I did not fall for it. Speed loading pages is the same, some faster some slower than the other.

I use Firefox because IE is the gateway to hell. No amount of virus protection will change the fact that Microsoft's little blue brat is holding open every door in your operating system, and unless someone here wants to tell me otherwise, version 8 is no different. Screw Microsoft; I'll keep my independent, not-rooted browser.

Meh... IE is kinda noobish. But it's good to get you started. Then later one, you move on to Firefox, if you feel like it, switch to opera... opera is not as homely, but it has some cool features.
