You submitted it to the contest? Because I didnt see it on you user page. Generally some of us will review and provide critiques before you post it on the main story thread to help you with your first drafts. If you have already posted it on the primary thread, there isnt much we can do to help since you cannot alter that draft once it has been submitted.

note* I am a bit buzzed so I may have missed it. If I have, please direct me to it so I can give you a proper review. Good luck in the contest!

I'm going to be editing it tonight/tomorrow and submitting it some time tomorrow or the day after. Managed to get a nice amount of responses of how to improve the stories (including one VERY in-depth review) which I think will hopefully propel my story somewhat forward to being at least a little better than last week's.

I've made my mind up, there's going to be trouble.

Finally finished it after taking the longest I've taken for any competition story yet. It's also the longest short story I've submitted ever. Just hope it ends up with at least a decent mark.

Hey its good that its helped you push your limits, and really thats what these contests should do. Regardless of your ranking, its something to be proud of.

I'm going to finish my editing tomorrow for sure. I've been sick for over a week and haven't felt like working on it, but since the deadline is so close, I'll have to suck it up. I'm almost happy with it, anyway. I'd still like to see what more people think of it as it is, though.

The ranking usually serves as a rough idea of how good a story is.

According to some :) (no offense to the judges)

The point is if you improved your ability to write, its a win-win scenario.

I may be a little late, but I just started working on my story. I should have it done by tomorrow. How's this for a beginning:

Legend tells of a mysterious region where islands appear and disappear overnight. This region houses a great treasure, one that would "revolutionize civilization" as is stated by the legend. Its exact location is unknown; all that is known about it is that it is in the middle of the vast Pacific Ocean. All those who tried to explore the area failed to even find it. Despite all our advances in technology, they could never pinpoint such a place. The ocean was simply empty, devoid of any islands in the midst of it. The legend was shoved aside as just another myth, one that may be entertaining for a fictional tale but holds no significance to the scientific community. One man however, firmly believed that this legend holds some truth, and he was determined to find this "great treasure"...

Only way to know if there's an improvement is to see how well received the story is.

Well, that's the hard bit done and out of the way - I've only got to sit down and spend a few hours reading the competition that I have against me. Looks like there's some tough stuff out there to compete against, but over the next few days, I'll hope to glean something from this effort and see if there's any way I can improve for next time.

I'm just happy to be here so far, don't want to build up expectations of winning, because if I don't, it's only going to be disappointment. I'd like to win, but, you know...

I might be wrong here but I feel that the stories are judged on how well they're written on not much on the actual plot itself. Of course how the story is written should hold some significance but so should the plot. As in if one story is written quite well, but the plot isn't much. While another story has very good and exciting plot and was written decently enough, then the latter should win.

Just a suggestion.

At least when I was judging myself, I always looked at the plot. The general "what's happening here" jist always mattered to me. Any story that had a plot which felt tacky and unoriginal was usually down-rated for those reasons. I however trust people like Zerok and GumOnShoe to keep plot and similar factors in mind as well as the execution of the idea.

I always thought that it should matter for any author, which is why it does to me, as well.

I have faith in them and their fellow judges, otherwise I would not have submitted my entry for the competition this month.

The theme was hard. Don't break yourself over the idea you did badly. You probably did better than a lot of people.

Holy shit, I completely forgot that I was planning to write a story for this until about five minutes ago. I came up with another idea and I'm going to see if I can finish it up in a day or two. Wish me luck, unless of course you're my competition. Then you can feel free to curse me with the evil eye.

It actually gets locked July 1 at midnight. Well, technically July 2. As in you have 100% of July 1 to work on it.

Well, until about 2 pm to be precisely precise. I have work and they're rarely receptive to the, "I can't come in I'm writing a story for a contest on Newgrounds.com," excuse. Hopefully it's enough time to work this into something decent. It's a clever idea, but I'm currently brutalizing it. This is generally where I say fuck it and go play video games, but I think I'm going to challenge myself to finish it and post it no matter how awful I think it is.

That's fantastic. I only realised what the date was and picked up writing where I left off. Right now I'm powering through it. I've still got a lot of plot development to go, but I'm definitely over the half way mark. Hoping to get it all done tonight though.

And here I was, thinking I was the only one who was going to submit a story this late, and I find WritersBlock and Jercurpac still going to submit stories.

On another note, this is probably the biggest competition we've had. I don't know if it's because the world limit was increased or because we've had more entries, but currently we've got 69 posts.

Good luck everybody, latecomers as well! I am interested to see what the pressure brings out in your stories. Some people write the best under those conditions
