Well, I may have only had 2 and a half hours to write it this time...but it didn't turn out bad(care to prove me wrong? It's on my profile. :P)...but I don't think I'm going to participate in next month's contest.

I always listen to music while I write, but I don't think I'd be able to synch it up, ever.

so yes, the new theme's a bit too intimidating for me.

I have listened to a few audio portal entries and while I understand the intent, I think its somewhat difficult if you have never really accessed the audio portal here before. Furthermore, alot of this music is intended as background music for flash and flash games (thus they are repetitive in beat and rhythm, by design.) I find it somewhat limiting because most do not actually have a significant start, middle and end because of what they were created for.

I am sure there are exceptions to the rule, but I am also certain most can see my point. Using music as a theme isnt a bad idea. Limiting it to the portal may be a bad idea. Just a thought before it is officially underway.

I will probably still try to participate either way. I am just fearful that limiting it to the portal may affect the number of entries, and in turn, participation in general.

Was there any particular reason it needed to be limited to the portal? Just part of the challenge (sincere question) ?

Same here. I don't think marmaduke will be making his debut in this month's writing contest - I'm just not up for this month's offering, so there's one less competitor in the running this time :P

It's interesting that you guys are talking about writing based off of a song for next month's contest, because I wrote an aptly titled song (and submitted it to the AP) based off of this month's writing.

I've just sent my scores off and my comments are done. It was a really fun contest to judge actually, with some real interesting entries coming about. It definitely wasn't easy coming up with my favourites, but good luck to you all anyway.

C1pher, BoomToons and FourSwordsKing have the worst scores without being disqualified so far, on my scoresheet.

No idea what the other judges thought of them, but personally, yeah, had to stop, facepalm and do something else for a while after those.

just as a blanket statement: i would appreciate anyone's feedback on my story when the time comes.

Just poking in to give an update on the judging as done by me. I have to say I have seen and read a lot of great stuff so far.... also a lot of things that make me want to kill small animals.

I should have all my results in by the end of Sunday.

I've had to drop points from a few stories this month for silly little errors like that which I can't really attribute to a typo (there instead of they're, fair instead of fare, waste instead of waist), and I can only strongly remind that you all proof-read your work before making the submission.

Another big note for some of you is dialogue, one story in particular was set in Ancient Rome, but the dialogue lacked any feel of that period and completely broke the story for me.

Also, Sawdust gets like 0/10 for anime references.

I've had to add "do a proof-read" to quite a few of my comments. I tend not to bring spelling and grammar issues up unless the writer has really, and I mean really messed up on that front. I suppose I'm hoping that constant reminders are uneeded, but it's relevant now and then definitely.

I think I'm very lenient with my scores. I gave a one last month, but that was a clear joke story. My scale is more like 4.5 to 9, with some exceptions. That being said, I tend not to give really high scores either. I think it would be hard, as great as many of the writers around here are, for an entry to get an absolutely perfect score from me. Most of us have places to improve.

I tend to focus my judging in the comments actually. I told myself this time, "I'm going to do shorter comments". No such luck. Some of them are longer than ever.

It's because I love people, or something ;)
