Please limit all discussion of this month's writing competition to this thread. Please wait to post here until the official contest rules have been posted and linked to in the next post. Thank you. :D

Any list of the judges yet?

I'm already thinking of maybe something like Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem already for the plot.

Of course not a complete steal-fest of the game, just maybe incorporating something about the game (something about the plot) into the story and building it from there. Don't worry, it also wouldn't be a fan-fic.

I've made my mind up, there's going to be trouble.

Yeah, I have it there. One slot remains open just because I didn't get around to contacting people about beyond the names you see there. Any previous judges are welcome, but on a first come first serve basis.

Damn, seems like a tough one to me.

I may see if I can get an idea in the noggin, though I'll likely just give up again like most months. We'll see.

Oh come on. It's essentially wide open. Strategy: come up with a story that has no bounds to it. Then think: what if this happened on a tiny island?! Write awaaaaayyyy.

Excitement isn't always the direction to go in. Sure, action movies do well but Drama has always dominated the charts.

If you can't get something crazy fantastic out of your brain, focus on something simpler, write about something that you are personally and/or passionately involved in. An island taxi service, I bet you could spin something about that. Do they use cars, boats, both? Whhhooooah!

Well, so much for my original idea. :/
Lol, I think it'll certainly be interesting to see how people do with more of a "free reign" over their stories. Mine, like my entry from April, will be set in some sort of alternate universe. Probably in space. :D

For some reason, I love the action and bold new worlds more than the drama. So I'll go with that.

And I enjoy steering clear from action because it just feels somewhat boring now. So drama it is!

I'm thinking of something along the lines of The Lost World. That is, an island filled with ravenous dinosaurs.

I like dinosaurs. Call me immature but they're fascinating.

I hope it doesn't come off as a plagarising mess.

I'll be using David Zindell as a benchmark for my own merits. I came across him by accident, but by god, he's really done some amazing things within the sci-fi/fantasy genre.

I actually plan on entering as a normal contestant. :o

Which means I won't be viewing the judging mailing list during this period. Zerok and I talked this over a few months ago, but even when I first started this I was hoping to get enough judges to eventually be able to have some rotation that way no one would get too burnt out. I think that we're finally getting to that point, which means you may not see all of us working every time. I'll be back though.

Nah, I have a great idea that's been sitting in my mind for a while. I gave it an initial start a few months ago for a different contest, but with everything else I never had time to finish it and I wasn't particularly attached to the setting. IF I can find a way for this to revolve a little more around the island I think it will actually come out better... I just have to crash through the other entries (starting tomorrow) and get my judgements done so that I have time for this (and work, and programming and and and ... maybe moderating the forums at some point :P)

Tonight, however, I need to unwind with some wings, maybe some bear, and definately a hockey game.

I immediately thought of something Lord of the Flies-ish since that's my favorite island story, but I don't really feel like doing a typical "marooned" story. I'll see what I can do with it.

To be honest, as much as I hate to admit it, originality does come into play. I doubt the judges want to read about twenty stories about castaways.

Hmm.

Guess I'll have to incorporate a few twists/deep characters in mine. Cause it's pretty cliché.
