according to paperbat, who has friends in Valve, it will not be an expansion or DLC, but a full priced game.

i suppose its only people who've bought the first one who will be grumbling, cuz everyone who hasnt bought it yet will be getting two awesome games for the price of one.

plus i think it would be pretty awesome to have a charger in No Mercy, cuz if they're bringing the old maps along for the ride, they better include all the new stuff in them.

Some people actually care about money and customer values. With your mentality you're just asking to be ripped off by companies which pull this kind of shit.

Imagine if you order a whole pizza. You get three slices, and the other three slices would be coming up soon. Instead the baker says you have to pay again for the other three slices. Would you be pissed off or just accept it?

As a customer you should get what you pay for, including promises that were used as a selling point.

also some of us barely have any money because no one ever seems to pay them. seriously my mom owes me 160, my friends owe me 1.50 and 50 respectively, and my neighbors owe me 45 and 30 bucks.

theyve owed me this for about a month or two now :'(

Difference is, the baker promised you the whole pizza at the start. Valve promised you extras over time.
They're under NO obligation to give you free extras, but they DO have to give you the thing they were selling.
And they've even said they're going to continue making content with L4D1, so maybe it's coming anyway.

I bought the game a while after this statement by Gabe Newell:

Considering they said "We Will" I think it's a very fair statement.

The Valve CEO has stated ( "we will" ) that there will be more content for L4D1, for free. Namely, new campaigns, new characters, new weapons, new unlockables, new achievements.
+ huge wall of text.

I agree with that, it was a weird move from valve indeed. We should wait and see what will happen.

If they are going to release new stuff for L4D, then why are they making a new one?
Just to make money?Fine..
But they won't make any because nobody will buy it since people will still be playing L4D and its new stuff...this is just bad thinking, that's all...
If TF3 was to be released now and at the same time VALVe will announced a, say, soldier&demo update for TF2 they will only decrease the new game's sales...

All of the above stuff is only valid if they are going to release the game in the next year...if not, then fine.

hey kids! lets play a game called: MEASSURE YOUR MONEY!

the game where you see how much money you're spending on a game, versus the content!

The Orange Box:
What you get:

Half-Life 2 - $20 value.
Half-Life 2: Episode One -$20 value.
Half-Life 2: Episode Two -$20 value.
Portal -$20 value.
Team Fortress 2 -$20 value.
Team Fortress Classic -$20 value.

Overall Price In Theroy: 120
Actual Overall Price: 20

Team Fortress 2:
what you get:

A large variety of Weapons
New Weapons every month.
8 balanced classes with updates every month.
A large variety of maps
new maps every month.

Overall Price: $20
Overall Price when bought in the Orange Box. - $3.33 (20 divided by 6)

Left 4 Dead 2:
What you get

A couple new weapons.
A couple new maps.
A couple new characters.
A couple new Enimies.

Overall Value: $20 (or less than that, PACKAGED IN ANOTHER $20 PACK.)
Overall Price: $50

you're paying full price for less content and gameplay depth than TF2, which is technically only 3 dollars.

THIS SHOULD BE AN EXPANSION PACK, OR EVEN A FREE UPDATE.

are there a bunch of new maps?

or are there no new maps?

either way the same could've been done with an expansion and its not worth 50$.

The term "a couple" implicitly refers to two.

For L4D2 they have announced 5 new campaigns, meaning 25 new maps.

You were 23 maps away from being accurate in your dismissive "a couple".

Given that each map has two play modes (campaign and versus) and that the 4 campaigns in L4D led to 16 maps in survival mode.

So we have, probably, 3 or 4 survival maps per campaign in L4D2, meaning 15-20 overall.

So that's 25 full maps, with 15-20 probably in Survival mode, plus the fact that with the new features the maps will change.

Hardly "a couple".

So, you were either lying and you knew it (trolling) or lying and you didn't know it (stupid).

They have provided a full games worth of new content for L4D2, based on what they've announced so far. They have also indicated that they will further update L4D AND L4D2, meaning even more bang for you buck, and given that Valve fairly regularly run half-price weekends and free-weekends and other deals there is no earthly reason for all the tears.

If they tried to provide all of that content as DLC, Xbox players would get screwed to hell, just like they do with the updates for TF2, so to provide the whole experience to everyone, they release it as a new game.

Now shut the fuck up and support Valve, you whiny cunts.

no, i didn't say there were only two maps,if if there aren't that many i know its more than two.

good god.

You were 23 maps away from being accurate in your dismissive "a couple".

if i had ACTUALLY said it was two.

but that isn't what i actually said and you're an asshole.

no, actually they haven't.

considering what we've seen of games like TF2 and Halo. which offer around that much content in free updates and expansions.

They have also indicated that they will further update L4D AND L4D2, meaning even more bang for you buck, and given that Valve fairly regularly run half-price weekends and free-weekends and other deals there is no earthly reason for all the tears.

thats nice. but whats the point of updating LfD classic if it already gets a sequel?

wouldn't it just make more sense to make an expansion pack so that one game gets all the new content?

If they tried to provide all of that content as DLC, Xbox players would get screwed to hell, just like they do with the updates for TF2, so to provide the whole experience to everyone, they release it as a new game.

so why shouldn't they just also release the expansion pack on the 360?

its like a roulette wheel with nothing but zero, everyone wins.

i'm not saying they have to give it all away for free, but hell, the least they could do is make it a 20$ game.

Not really.

Hence the way "couple" is used to refer to two people in a relationship.

no, actually they haven't.

In what way is 25 different maps with multiple gameplay modes not a full game?

Given that they've also announced that there will be a new gameplay mode, we'll have Campaign, Versus, Survival and something new, along with the maps being even more variable than in L4D.

That's a hell of a lot of content, much of which will be different every time you play.

considering what we've seen of games like TF2 and Halo. which offer around that much content in free updates and expansions.

No, they don't.

TF2 has in no way released 25 new maps + 3 new classes, in fact they haven't released ANY new classes, and a new class is a hell of a lot more than a new weapon for a class.

thats nice. but whats the point of updating LfD classic if it already gets a sequel?

To improve the game?

You're bitching about wanting free stuff for L4D, but then bitching when they offer free stuff?

wouldn't it just make more sense to make an expansion pack so that one game gets all the new content?

No, because the number of large changes to the Director, the infected, the guns and the extra game mode would mean that they would have to go back and redesign every level from L4D to work with the new things.

That would mean instead of designing, creating and testing 25 maps over 4 game modes with the new system, they would be designing, creating and testing 45 maps over 4 game modes, which is a massive amount of extra work which you twats would still cry about.

so why shouldn't they just also release the expansion pack on the 360?

You'd all still cry about it not being free.

i'm not saying they have to give it all away for free, but hell, the least they could do is make it a 20$ game.

They haven't released pricing information yet.

Everyone is seeing the price on Amazon and throwing that around as if Valve posted it on Steam, but they haven't, so shut up until they actually give an official price.

my biggest worry is that they'll release the game without changing all that much from the original (though doing things that i admit, they couldn't do an expansion. you win fyndir.) and make it more expensive than the Orange Box.

Do you even know what L4D2 is? Read the information posted by VALVE, listen to some of the interviews with VALVE, the 'basic' game is Left 4 dead, zombies and you have to escape but the entire game dynamic has changed; We now play during the day and night, zombies act differently during the day time, we have new infected, we have over 25 new maps, we have new weapons, we have new characters and you know what's best? VALVE will have taken what everyone shit bricks about in the first game and complained and have fixed it.

Seriously, okay so they could release it as an expansion pack but that wouldn't be worth it, we'd slowly be drip fed content and by the time they released it all there'd be <10,000 L4D players. Also, they can't modify the entire game engine, can they? L4D plays differently, it's not just L4D1 with some new shit, it's a new game that continues from L4D1.

It's like call of duty, you don't go complaining that "omfg I bought call of duty 1 why can't they give me CoD2, CoD3, CoD4, CoD5 and CoD6 all for free now, stupid gay stealing twats!!!!!", they follow the same basic idea - you shoot people, they die and you finish missions - but they're their own games, they have different storylines, characters and gameplay is different.

Get over yourself, if you don't want to pay for L4D2, don't, but I will happily pay whatever they charge for it, because it's worth it. I've played 100 hours of L4D1, that's less than $0.30 an hour.

All those games named weren't sold under the promise that the game would recieve extensive content updates. That's the main problem, a company shouldn't promise things it can't make come true.

Take a look at this video. They're still going to be updating L4D1 and you know why they're releasing L4D2? There's too much to release as modifications; they can't just modify the game engine on an already released game, you'd all cry more than you're crying now.

So the team brought their concepts and ideas to create a sequel to Gabe Newell, and even he was skeptical about the idea. According to Faliszek, he expressed his doubts, and claimed this move was against the character of the company. "To Gabe's credit, and he's a great guy to work for, he said if this is what you want to do, if this is what you're excited about, go do it."

Even Gabe himself is skeptical about the idea of L4D2.

It's open to interpretation whether or not this counts as false advertising. For me, it was a mild fluke that Valve didn't think through to the end. A simple mistake from an otherwise astonding industry.

Seriously, Valve showers us with free updates and patches all the time - the least we can do in return is actually pay for additional games every now and then. Give 'em a break.

Also, yes, I admit that I do have a pro-Valve biast, seeing as how I am a satisfied, spoiled, and avid Team Fortress 2 player.
