DISCLAIMER - Your opinion may be ignored if you're stupid.

I'm guessing this thread is in response to WilliWowza's departure?

But in reality, I don't think the BBS is that bad. There is some corruption from the mods, or so it seems to the average user. You guys may deny it, but sit does seem like it at times. Also, some of you *cough* do act like complete asssholes here. It really sets a bad example to new users.

Also, it couldn't hurt if some mods wouldn't act so annoyed all the time. For example, the majority of the time I see a thread locked the only reason is a link to somewhere else, or a half-ass explaination. Maybe if the mods acted more personable, and more like an average user, some people wouldn't hate them so much.

As you explained in your first post, the banning is also a problem. It's good to see you waived some, because it was getting out of hand. You guys don't need to ban for every little offense, just give a slap on the wrist or sorts.

The ability to "flag" abusive posts would be pretty cool, not sure how well that will work, though.

That's all I can think of.

Hmm, personally, the BBS is the same for me as it was back in the middle of 08. Yeah, there's noobish users who make those "Hi, Im new" threads or something similar, but it's not like whatever mod attends to it flips out and bans the noob for 30 days. Which takes me to my next point, the mods.

A lot of the mods here are fairly agreeable (Jonas, Mal, etc), and all of the mods do a pretty decent job at keeping the good stuff in the BBS good and the shit out. Yeah, the occasional spam thread flies, and usually, an unsuspecting user gets B&, but honestly, are the bans that long? Most are about 1-2 days.

Maybe another mod could be necessary, though, in the near future. Obviously, issues with the time-zones would warrant it, but the level of spam threads does not warrant another mod. We're not /b/, after all.

Personally, I dont think the BBS is really declining. But, I wouldnt really know. Is this how the 05-07 users felt when 08 rolled in?

Mods encouraging the making of gimmick alts with certain users.

Last I checked if you make an alt and it gets banned and you post on your usual account that equals a 30 day ban.

I think some users just need to just suck it up and take a ban. All of these users always say, 'GAWD POOZY IZ SUCH A FAG FOR BANNING ME! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAH', but really, he's modding his way. Poozy is doing nothing wrong other than banning butthurt users. Besides, I think we can all agree, people who complain about mods were rightfully banned.

- Get Poozy hooked on tranquilisers, to mellow him up.

- Bring in tarring and feathering for anyone that repeatedly makes an arse of themselves.

- Bring back animated sigs, now.

- Give warnings to only the users that behave themselves before banning them.

- Get BBR back, please.

- Have a "post/review of the week" competition and have prizes (not relevant I know but a good one).

- Change a users level icon into a cake when it's their birthday (how awesome would that be?).

And that's it for now.

There's nothing wrong with the BBS unless you could ban for ignorance and moronic behaviour. The moderators do a pretty top-notch job but maybe I'm only saying that because I'm not as active recently and spend more time in the Newgrounds Stickam chat, rather than on the actual BBS.

I've spoke with a lot of mods and they're all pretty genuine people. Sanjay, Jonas, Jade and Renaenae are actually a lot like us. At least the more sensible, mature posters. Even Poozy himself is really quite genuine. He does quite often clack his ban-wheel and look for reasons to ban people, but every community needs the hard-ass to keep everyone in line; and it's worked.

I personally post one-liners sometimes just for hilarity, sometimes due to laziness but never meant to spam. I think the mods can tell the difference between the two and ban fairly. I've not been banned in months for something I think unfair.

The only problem here is the general community. I feel discouraged to post because I usually just see crap threads that have been done many times before and contain a very limited body of text. Usually this thing is left alone as it does spark some kind of discussion, and to start banning for not detailed enough threads would send the majority of the community away.

Really, unless you can change the general community, there's nothing you can do for the BBS.

Maybe he's talking about transformer? Who is obviously the alt of a staff member or mod. So if one of the higher-ups does it, it's okay. But for the average user, we get banned?

I know this is most likely going to sound like an isolated issue, but most of the things going on around the site (arrogant moderators, locked accounts) are starting to piss me off. I assume that means some other people are pissed off too. Before long, it becomes a huge maze-like web of hatred towards Newgrounds. That is all.

I haven't actually been a victim of this, but mods who try too hard to be dicks. I mean, trolling is unfunny generally, but it's even less funny when the person trolling you has the power to ban you from the BBS.

Mods who hold grudges too. People can change, but even if the person doesn't change, it's still petty for someone in a relative position of authority to sink to their level.

I don't really post enough to notice any terrible things that the mods do, but when people who I respect are leaving, it seems something must be wrong. I hope you find whatever that is. I don't see me ever leaving this place, but I probably could end up slowing my posting rate down to 0 if everything that engages me on here is gone.

Actually, most users with alts rarely get banned. Most of the users who *DO* get their alts banned is because they do it as a form of aggression and continued annoyance.

I dont think theres really a problem with having an alt. Tom has one. Its fun to have your alter-ego and enjoy the site. I think the alt is simply annoying in a situation where you are using it to get around a ban and being equally annoying with it. If youre going to get around a ban fine, but why would you go and be an annoyance again with it?

Amazingly moderators make mistakes, and sometimes show poor judgment, and therefore, the users have full right to complain. Too often people assume that bitching isn't something that should be listened too.

This.

So many people post simply to say - I agree with this post, like I have, but then do not go on to explain why they do, or even expand on the point. In threads, too many users don't read through the whole thing, and even if they do, they post something that gives no opportunity for discussion, and is basically a +1.

But yeah, it's mostly the community, not the Mods. I think the Mod team does a good job. My one complaint would be how different mods lock different threads due to their own personal feelings, but this was already stated in the thread, so I'll just say I agree with it too.

I personally post one-liners sometimes just for hilarity, sometimes due to laziness but never meant to spam. I think the mods can tell the difference between the two and ban fairly. I've not been banned in months for something I think unfair.

Yes, me too. If someone is constantly posting one liners, they should be warned by a Mod to give their posts more substance, and if they continue with all the one-liners they should be banned.

Well, flat out bitching is kinda boring and stupid to listen to, seeing as how it's mostly whining about a justified ban.

Now, if it's fairly mild discussion of a ban, that's not that bad, is it?

Also, I think it would be better if the mods gave advice and guided users, rather than the hardass routine.

I'd assume the average age around here is still quite low, and teens are quite impressionable. If they get insulted by a mod when they first sign up, it's more likely that they'll eventually turn to spamming and resenting the mods.

You'd still get some douchebags, but if it prevents some people from becoming dicks, then it can't be bad.

I disagree entirely. This is a public forum, a forum is a place for discussion, imagine a thread as a conversation, if you're having an argument with a friend about the best way to cook eggs and you say something and your other friend who's walking by says "Yeah, good idea" you don't go "OMFG GET THE FUCK OUT I'M BANNING YOU FROM SPEAKING TO ME EVER AGAIN!!" do you?

I don't see why anyone should be punished for posting short posts, why not just ignore them? It's their account, they can do what they like and they're not adversly affecting your viewing experience. If this place was a competition to get the most posts, then sure, ban them for spamming, but it's not. if someone feels the best way to contribute is to post "lol cool", why shouldn't they be allowed?

Well if they are civil about it and PM a mod with an explanation of how the mod makes a mistake that isn't bitching.

If they make a thread whining about it and calling the mod a nazi then that is bitching.

I think we all have to look at the amazingly sad truth. The user demographic of newgrounds is slowly starting to lower in age (more 13 year olds). All you can simply do is one of two things.

1. Keep your integrity and keep at it
2. Play to the demographic and lax up.

I prefer the former.

I think you Mods are actually doing a good job, but sometimes people need to just be warned instead of just a sudden ban. It's really annoying to write out a huge post just to find you were banned for disagreeing with someone (eg. a spam-topic-reply could land you a ban - it did me once).

I agree that NG has a lot of spammers that need to be dealt with too. I know there is a topic about spam bot PM's and stuff* but newbies need to be informed about all these things. Maybe something like an introductory PM with useful links or something...
