I like the simple style of art you use and I gotta say, I laughed on this one.

Thanks, though Im actually deviating from that simpler style at the moment... getting more arty, less cartooney...
But its good to hear it made you laugh, that was one of the main aims of that picture
I decided to make a nice Year overview of my art for my first year here on newgrounds.
It seems kinda hard to believe I`ve only been here for one year.
Anyways, this is a big Thank you to everyone who has supported me, critiques me, helped me develop over this past year. THANKS
also thanks to m-vero for the idea of doing this, and support in picking a piece for december!

It looks rather pasted into the pic, as if it's not an actual part of it.
Even though you've obscured it a bit, it still stands out too much when compared to the rest which is far less defined.
A shadow under the raff, additional giraffe silhouettes in the background or rocks, grass, bushes in the foreground would add a lot.

Yeah, I guess so... I kinda wanted to finish that one quickly, so I added the background so I could upload it.
Anyways, Heres a new one... what is it with me and african animals? I dont know...

I certainly didn't see a zebra with more that two colors for it's coat. Yeah nice concept, the world should always be colorful. I lke the way you blend different colors to make this. Well done Jasper, keep it up.
Man I feel weird calling you by your first name. I always wanted to call you that! XD

Woah, the colours man. I'm tripping out!
Happy New year to everyone!
2009 was a great year for me artwise, and I hope my progression into the arts wont end in 2010. Well see what this next decade brings.

I took your suggestion of deleting the corners.

Im guessing thats a good thing then!
That zebra ...
I don't know why, but it feels like something is wrong. But maybe it's just the colors instead of B&W that tricks me into believing it!
Great work, personally I find it very hard drawing animals, but I think you pretty much nailed it!
kudos to you!
Also, nice art "timeline" you've made there (I will definatly make one of those next year!), I'm really starting to like those colors and that pattern in the background. It's almost like some sort of signature!
Happy new year!

hmm. dont really know what would be wrong with the zebra.... its loosely referenced, I cant really see anything wrong with it.

Thanks, personally, I think drawing realistic animals is quite easy compared to drawing anything else realistically... animals are really recognizable, but nobody really knows what animals look exactly like, as opposed to humans which we are all familiar with. If your drawing human made objects, you often have to deal with geometrical accuracies, which makes it hard... I guess everything has its difficult things.

Thanks, and Im glad you like the house style
It's almost like some sort of signature!
Even better, it isa sort of signature
Happy new year!
Likewise!

Your art is good unless you copy a character then it just looks wierd.

Thanks for the first part!
I dont really know what you mean by the second part...?
I think he thinks you traced.
I like it. Nice color scheme!
I thought the upper part of his lips were kinda wierd though, untill I saw the reference :D

Thats what I initially thought, but then why would it look weird?

Glad you like it, Its finished now.

Ok, here I am. :)
So again, how exactly did u got this gorgeous effect? I agreed, that the answer would have been way too long for a response on a review.

well, I already saw that you use photoshop, so the answer is actually quite simple... I used a tiny round (standard) brush (3pts). Then set it to pen pressure sensitivity and only use black and white...
I had the greenish background, and the layer I drew in was set to vivid lightning
The trick for me was to look at what I saw instead of what I knew was there...
for example you know how lips look, or are supposed to look. the point is, they dont look like that.
So, I first drew the outlines of the black areas, then some other outlines...
then fill in the black parts, add some shading with the black on low pressure. then add the highlights... thats basically it.
I have always drawn in a "scetchy" way, even in my cartooney art I use tons of brush strokes and then erase all the access lines. I guess that might make this technique somewhat easier for me... still it isnt all that hard.
anyways, Welcome to the forum, and again thanks for the critique!
Thank you for the support.
The loss of my creator has made a drastic impact onmy life!
I especially love how you made the eyes so blue. It makes a great deal of contrast to the red highlight thing!
But what are those lines going from top-right corner, and diagonally downwards to the center?

Yeha... i dont really get this part... ?

Those are a "hardmix" layer... it increases the contrast and creates the yellow in the right tears, it also gives the background some color.
agains, thanks

Say what? I use these really old things called cds... which is basically a sort of removable harddisk with music on it....
srsly though I dont really get what you mean.

hmm.. what do you mean with a reliable source? Someone that introduced me to that music? Reference pictures of the poeple I portrayed?
this has already won the communication of decade award...
anyways, although they are quite old, there are still enough photos and even videos available... they were all really big so...
At 1/11/10 10:09 AM, PrinceFlea wrote: Nah I was wondering who introduced you to the music that all.
basically your trying to say, you dont see many people that listen to jazz nowaday, and that is true but the arts good so im not complaining
At 1/11/10 10:09 AM, PrinceFlea wrote: Nah I was wondering who introduced you to the music that all.
ah... well, Ive been playing music for almost 13 years now, I started on euphonium, and since two years have been learning to play the piano too. So I guess you kind of come across these poeple... some were suggested by teachers, others by friends that are also in music...
In jazz you have these things called "standards", which are compositions that are part of the standard repertoire of jazz musicians. Now if you looking for a recording of Duke ellington playing "take the "A"-train", you might come across a recording of the Dave brubeck quartet, or of John Coltrane playing said song.
That's some nice art you got going there, I really like the SirNightOwl and the Firestarter, those are really awesome.
