Shaking Hands

I've noticed that a lot of younger people don't shake hands anymore. Upon meeting a friend of a friend recently, I introduced myself and he just nodded and said 'Alright?'. I then offered him a handshake and he reluctantly accepted. His hand shake was as limp as fuck, which annoys me.

Anyhow, it's always me that has to force it upon people when I meet them.

So do you offer a hand shake when you meet someone new?

Most often when you meet the first time, yes. Unless they are children or younger teenagers, then it often might not be the case.

I only shake hands with peoples parents or adults in general. Other than that when somebody introduces themselves I just say hi and smile.

If it's someone older than me then I'll shake their hand, seems more formal and respectful. If it's someone the same age as me or younger, I don't feel I need to be so formal and I'm more relaxed in my greeting.

I always try to shake hands, but since so little people do it lately, I don't want to come off as weird right away, as that guy who wants to shake hands. Who knows, maybe they think I just masturbated or something.
I did shake hands a few times yesterday though when I met some new people, and a strong grip is always a good thing, never shake hands like a bitch.

I usually do the handclap kinda thing. Although one of my friends always shakes hands no matter what. So I guess I could say I do both.

I avoid handshakes... but when offered one I give a passive aggressive squeeze and stare the other guy down. I don't know why I do this, I'm a friendly person and I'm not competitive in the slightest. But there is something about a handshake that brings out the worst in me.

Or I do a "tcheck" which we always do in Paris.
The tcheck consists of "side hi-five-ing" like a quick handshake, then we hit our hands (not too hardly) like punching. Kinda difficult to explain but really fun.

Well, I don't do that to adults too. I shake hands with adults, but a tcheck with buddies.

Shaking hands is a sign of respect, the absence of hostile intentions, trust and a promise of working together.

That being said, when I meet someone new for the first time, I always give them a firm handshake. In fact, the handshake tells you alot about another person.

Conclusion: it increases your social relationship especially when you meet someone new, and it also tells you alot about the other person in question.

i shake everyones hand cause i was raised to have manners.. people that dont shake hands are usually weirdos. i hate limp clammy handshakes.. its just a hand dont be afraid of it.. and i also hate the hand crushers.. i have no idea where that mentality comes from where the need to crush someone's hand comes into play..

maybe next time i meet one of those people, when they are shaking my hand and crushing it i will quickly grab their hand with two hands and exert all my strength into crushing their hand until veins pop out of my skull and they are on the ground screaming "get this fuckker off me.. get this crazy bastard off me!!!"

If it's my friend or someone I know, I give them a pown, which is a fancy handshake. If I'm going for a job interview, I give a proper, firm handshake. lol

I always shake hands if I'm being introduced to new people, or if they've just done something pretty awesome. It just seems like good manners to me. If its people I already know then I usually just give them a nod unless I'm drunk then its a manly hand shake followed by a big bear hug.

Yeah if it's someone I've never met before I'll shake their hand. If i'm meeting one of my best mates I'll usually hug them, but only if I've not seen them in a while.

Where I live we slap out hands together and hold the other persons fingers or we give them dap. Dap is when put your fist on another person's fist.

Well sometimes I will offer the ol' handshake, but yesterday when my flatmate had some of her classmates over to do some work and she introduced me to them, one stuck out her hand and I was kind've thrown off. Then I had to go around shaking all their hands.
