Need connection help NOW plz!

I'd put this in VG forum, but it has nothing to do with games or the various merits/abilities of my chosen console, it's just a connection problem to a gaming service. So no, this does not go in VG, before you say.

Okay so I'm having problems with my 360. I tried to sign into XBL, but it couldn't connect to it. I ran the test and it says I'm connected to the internet, but not Live, for some bizzare reason.

The troubleshooting guide told me to open certain ports, which is my problem. I have absolutely no idea how to do that (In two years of studying computing, I was never shown anything about firewalls. Gee thanks education system.) and Xbox.com makes no sense to me.

Clarified version of events:

1: Turned on Xbox.
2: Failed to sign into XBL.
3: Ran diagnostics.
4: Turned my internet off and on again.
5: Re-ran diagnostics.
6: Hoovered room.
7: Realized I was connected to the internet, but not Xbox Live.
8: Went to xbox.com, who told me to fuck myself.
9: ????????
10: Posted on NG asking anonymous strangers to fix my 360.

Any help you guys can give would be appreciated very, very much.

Type, "192.168.1.1" into your browser address bar. It'll prompt you for a username and password. If you haven't changed them, the defaults are usually "admin" and "admin". Or "admin" and "". Try and find some tab about gaming. From there, you should be able to forward the neccessary ports.

everyone's xbox live is down, well it was. Apparently is back up now so just keep checking
