You do realize just how large the percentage of viewers here under 13 is, right?

thats insinuating that all the artist here are selfish narcissistic assholes. I'd rather link my flash's to flash's by Bug or Kol Belov or Ansel than the tankman ripoffs that are currently populating the list.

Why should the website have to comply to the way that YOU browse it? There's nothing stopping you just opening a series/collection page in a tab, and one at a time opening new tabs to each individual flash.

For every newgrounds visitor like you who opens loads of tabs all at once, there are probably three or four or maybe even more who don't even know that tabs exist.

\

Well then why should it comply with the people who enjoy HD widescreen Youtube-reminiscent things on their computers? I'm not the only one who brought it up, so don't blame that trait solely on me. And tabs are developments related to newer browsers; we shouldn't want or have to backtrack because someone is still using IE4 or whatever version of whatever browser, and cater to either ignorance or a specific group's general dislike while completely ignoring a feature that BOTH IE and Firefox use. o-o That's really just further proof we need a little button that changes the layout to whichever we like best. :D

Personally, I think there still needs to AT LEAST be an option for users to switch to the narrow version of the site, with the pop-up, etc. This isn't stemming from nostalgia, but practicality and professionalism.

Here are two alternative suggestions for how to go about implementing the old, classic version while keeping the new:

1) Have the narrow version as the default view. Why a narrow version? It is more professional, looks better for a lot of people (some would say more sophisticated), and works better for those with smaller screen resolutions (not that I have a small screen resolution). You could be losing a lot of potential visitors who are initially turned off by the unsophisticated look or something that won't fit on their screen. Most people visiting the site are browsers and won't care for a huge screen anyway. They're just here to view the content, not to be awed by wide-screen prowess (not that they would necessarily be awed anyway). In fact, many may prefer pop-ups because it is more practical with regards to site navigation.

2) If you keep the wide version as the default view, then I think the narrow version I speak of should rightfully be called the "Classic Version", and the new, wide version should be named something else (e.g. "Wide Version"). The option for pop-ups should be dealt with as an option via a checkbox (e.g. "Display Flash in Pop-up or on page?") on the new option page you made.

I wouldn't even suggest alternative #2 above if the wide layout isn't going to go global to begin with. If the wide version is only staying on the flash section or a select few sections, the site would seem even more unprofessional (and furthermore, inconsistent) than having the wide layout as a default but global view.

I have done a lot of designing in the past and it shouldn't be too hard to make the narrow version compatible with the wide version. Assuming that every table within the main borders is fluid, then all you need to do is fix the width of the main table being held by the main borders and the fluid tables should sort themselves out.

That's my main complaint about the layout itself, aside from the in-window content auto-load. >:[

The point is this: Newgrounds is a business; the percentage of ACTIVE users who view the site is tiny compared to those who are just passing through or come for flash games and movies. Ideally, yes, Newgrounds would cater for the users and we'd all be happy but that just isn't possible. They - the administration - identified a problem; using pop-pops with no content inline was causing people to prefer other websites, people are impatient and if you don't know Newgrounds it could be hard finding how to access the content. They had to solve this, sure, quite a few people will dislike it, but from a business point of view it's a necessary step to take.

From a business point of view, it could lose a lot of users who either can't stand the auto-load, the widescreen, the scatter-brained effect some pages take on, etc. "Quite a few people" is a lot for this site, if the people who actively help to generate the revenue of the site is a tiny amount. Most people visit more than once, and most people reply games, so I don't know what you'd consider an active user, but I wasn't talking about registered users specifically. I'm not sure what you mean by inline content. And if you're implying people were confused on how to access content while the "PLAY THIS GAME" or "WATCH THIS MOVIE" was in their face...what? Clarify if I've got you wrong.

I know Its nice to have things like that, everything built by the community and big decisions decided as a whole, but some times big things just need to be done without pissing around for the greater good. No, there never was a poll like you suggested, but sometimes the users dont always know whats best for a website.

What it will probably come down to is you having to tick a box in your profile and get used to a slightly different layout. This feature will generate so much more traffic for the site. With the new ad sharing, us guys are gonna be able to make a lot more money off our stuff and get it seen by a ton of new people.

People that have been around here for a few years will know that the site has changed and improved hugely in a relatively short time, without selling out and becoming a corporate machine like Kongregate. Theres still loads more stuff to come im sure, we are halfway through a pretty huge transition in the sites life, stay with it, newgrounds wont let you down. I loved Glaiels dick metaphor.

Power of Three will push the site forward in terms of quality of content, exposure and reputation. A hell of a lot of people know Newgrounds, it was the original flash game site, yet people associate it with hentai and dick jokes. I think over the next few years we are gonna see this reputation shaken off again and watch Newgrounds become THE fucking flash entertainment site. Its taken a while to catch up again, but just watch it happen :)

I dunno if any of that made any sense, click post anyway..,,

I know it's changed somewhat. I used to lurk here way before I ever registered, but it still bugs me. I hope they do make an option, or at least make this layout more customizable , because this layout seems to leave a group in the dark as far as opinion (scan the entire thread, you'll see what I mean, some people just plain hate it), equipment (computer screen dimensions, etc.). I don't understand how a widescreen layout will help generate traffic, though, because if people don't like (or do like) NG because of cock jokes, slapping a new layout on it won't change anything. It'll just look more like Youtube. Or Gaia. And the whole thing I liked about NG was how the content was presented, especially since it didn't shove the game in your face with annoying music. :P Last part was a bit of a joke, but it still made a difference. Someone had suggested a play button; maybe that would work, but it's just reverting to a more Flash-like play button rather than a text one.

Nice layout, but whenever I click on the dim lights button, nothing happens. Also, when the screen widens up, it doesn't exactly fit on my screen. Otherwise, awesome stuff!

Well, it's ok, but I perher the original, because of 2 reasons.
1: It's automaticly, people don't know it's have a menu or not and some flashes might have ear rape.
2: the content, ok, if you about to watch a movie and it says it's Mature, then why is it Mature? does it contain cursing, violence, or nudity like a male teenager running around naked for example.
