I've moved on through the stress and anxiety I've always had. I too, get social anxiety, but not very often. Only to the people I meet, of whom I like. It's not bad, and don't consider raping the girl, or torturing the boyfriend. He was there first, you weren't.

Just be there for her. If she breaks up with her boyfriend then you come in. Besides she might have a friend or two who shares the same interests as her so lurk boy lurk.
