I saw it yesterday, and now I understand why it's ranked second greatest movie ever on the IMDB.
It's an amazing movie, means things to me now, can't believe how it never won an oscar and how Pulp Fiction did instead in 1994.

Anyone seen it?

Funnily enough my mother brought it on DVD today, its a family favourite around here on the Aci6 Estate. I like it primarily because its based on Stephen King's story- though the logic of the escape seems a little too elaborate. A poster? Pffft.

Pulp Fiction was good, one of the best for it's dialogue definitely, and Shawshank's drama so you can't compare the two with each other it wouldn't be fair because their completely different. And yeah, the oscars are BS, a generic Spielberg or Michael Bay film is more likely to win the oscar than a more obscure independent film that's got genius written all over it. I prefer the Cannes film festival, and Shawshank.

It's a movie about prison, very well acted and the story is perfect based on a Stephen King novel.
I won't give you any spoilers, just watch it like I did without knowing much about it beforehand.

If youre sceptical about how good it is, go watch it. It's really cheap. I got it for about £2 two years ago, so it might be 50p now. It's one of the best films ever made.

And also, it is quite exciting. (Its not modern prison, set in the 1950s I believe, though I could be wrong about the time period)

If you enjoyed that, and haven't seen the Green Mile, that's worth a shot, too. It's also based on a Stephen King novel and based around life on death row in prison.

Almost any SK movie directed by Frank Darabont is worth seeing, because unlike many other directors, he actually tries hard to keep the movie in line with the book. I think the other one he's done is The Mist, which I highly enjoyed, but I'd check out is IMDB page to make sure.

But yeah, the Green Mile almost made me cry.

ALMOST.

It's probably because they a) never read the novella and thus b) really got cheesed at the ending. Or maybe just b).

The novella was one of my favourite works by Stephen King for a long time, and the movie NAILED it. They really couldn't have done much better. The ending was entirely invented by Darabont, but in the DVD commentary Darabont says that when King saw the ending, he said that he wished he had of thought of that instead of the way he ended it.

I can't say I enjoyed The Green Mile all that much, found it quite dull myself.

The Mist is the second best Stephen King adaption IMO. It's actually not even in his Top 10 which I found a little odd (he actually LIKED 1408).

Two of my favourite movies ever. I love Shawshank more as an overall film, especially with regard to how the escape came together over the course of his incarceration. Green Mile is spectacular as well, and while not as good overall it has evoked amongst the strongest emotional responses I've ever had with regard to a film, I was really, REALLY struggling to fight back tears at the movie's climax.

But seriously, I'd recommend both to anyone in a heartbeat, both as great adaptions and brilliant movies in their own right.

I saw that movie about a month ago and it was bloody amazing. I wanted to watch it again every night, but unfortunately after the first time I watched it, my DVD player crapped out on me. I guess the movie was too awesome for it to handle.

Yea, it's one of the best movies I have ever seen.

My sister recommended it and I wasn't expecting much. But the plot was amazing, and the way he got out was stunning. I've watched it like 5 times now just because of it's greatness.

and I thought it was #1 on imdb?

Any NGer would definitely love it, especially the rape scenes.

I've seen it a few times and it's a good movie. I don't really know what it was about it but it's not one of my favorites, it just seemed like the story progressed too easily (if that makes any sense). It just seemed like a really simple movie compared to the movies I like to watch.

I liked 1408 too; that story was my favourite in Everything's Eventual. I was pretty stoked to see a movie come of it, since it was such a short and simple story. I admit, in the theatre I was a little freaked out because I knew crazy shit was gonna go down but I didn't know how they were gonna do it. They did pretty good sticking to the story for the most part in that film as well.

That's just the start of the journey. This is one of those movies that you can (and will) watch innumerable times and still find enjoyment in. You will in all likelyhood reach a state where when it's on regular tv your mind fills in all the swears they edit out.

Green Mile>Shawshank Redemption

But yeah Shawshank was a great movie. Though I do not really agree with being #1 on IMDB. If you liked it, read the original novel by Stephen King. It's found in his novel Different Seasons, which also features the stories which would later become the movies "Stand By Me" and "Apt Pupil"

It's amazing how creative Stephen King is. I couldn't ever find myself to read the book, but I've seen the movie numerous times. Tim Robbins is excellent in that role. Great concept for a movie, incredible character development, and a satisfying ending are what makes this movie so awesome.

What was number one on the list, Citizen Kane or Godfather? I could see those surpass Shawshank, all good films.
