Only because I Don't understand why In Christianity, Satan would punish some one who Did something he probably would have done or has already done himself. That would make him a hypocrite. Don't you think he would be trying to use you against God? Or maybe he doesn't really care what you do. Satan just has his own way of doing things, Satan didn't like Gods way, so he left. We do that to each other. That doesn't mean that he wants to rip us apart for all eternity. I don't know NG, its confusing.
All I'm saying is that I don't think it would be too bad hangin' with Satan.
So do you think If you go to hell you get punished or is it just a time to hang out?
ENDOFLINE.

According to the common view of hell, it is probably just a time to hang out. However, according to Dante Alighieri's view of hell, it certainly is not.

The idea of it is this: Satan is evil, and likes nothing more than causing pain. It doesn't matter whether the person he's hurting is just as evil, Satan still has power and authority over that person, and so he will use that opportunity to cause pain and misery.
But, since hell doesn't exist, we don't have to worry about any of that shit. Just be a good person in your short time on earth,
Here's what it boils down to:
Heaven = Immediate proximity to God = Eternal Bliss
Earth = place where one's actions can get you either closer or farther from God = lesser degree of Bliss, at the least
Hell = Complete lack of God's presence or influence = Eternal Torment.
Going to Hell isn't about getting pitchforks jammed into your ass. It's about not being allowed into God's House (a.k.a. Heaven), which means losing the only thing that truly makes you happy.
Satan's already there. He knows there's no way out, no means by which to be happy EVER again.
So what does he do?
He tries to get even with God.
How? By tempting His children to the point of having them renounce Him completely. Which of course makes Him suffer.
Also, there's simply nothing better for a bad mood than spreading it around. Same goes for eternal suffering, it seems.

"Satan didn't like Gods way, so he left" So what you're saying is Satan is a lot like America?
I never looked at it that way but Satan is pretty American in that way, he was George Washington before George was!

I'll assume that God imposed the Stamp Tax on Satan? And taxation without representation? Also terrible rights to the criminals? No free speech? No freedom of assembly?
They are two entirely different events, one is written down in history, the other in theology, it is completely impossible to compare them.
Also, Satan left because he wanted power for himself, Washington rebelled because he wanted freedom for his people.
There's a big difference.

He'd be helping God's supposed cause through encouraging people to be good through fear of being tortured.
Yea, its kinda like the story of Iobe. Satan tortured him and God turned a blind eye to test Iobe's faith.
yea, they are both dicks.

Isn't God meant to be ubiquitous?
He is.
What I meant to say is, according to us Catholics, the warmth of his "touch", of his devine influence, is completely gone when you're in Hell.
Which is just as bad as him not being there at all. If not worse.

The Satanists.
Not sure if you're trolling, going to assume that you're sincere.
Satanism has pretty much nothing to do with praying to Satan. It's more about having no inhibitions and despizing the weak and all that.
I believe there IS a Hell, but not in the traditional sense of "fire & brimestone" or "eternal damnation." Hell is, from my own understanding, the worst of any human belief; the prospect of life after death is non-existant. Wouldn't that be a true Hell? There being nothing after you die? No God, no Satan, non-existance? But like I said, that is my opinion. Consider me to be the unorthodox athiest: I don't believe in life after death, but I don't worship the fact that we'll become ferilizer for Earth's fucking forests.

We have a cookie-cutter politician in the making here. Why don't you run along and write and album with Serj Tankian?

Their explanation is that god is punishing you for your sins by sending you to hell. Satan might torture you or whatever, but ultimately it's god's decision whether you end up there or not.
But since none of that shit exists, there's no need to worry about it.

This. Except from what I understand, Satan is on Earth. He wont actually be cast into Hell until after the battle of Armageddon. But anyway, he wont be doing the punishing.
