I've had the idea for this thread for maybe a year already, but now I figured the time is right.

So, what will be the key elements in this decade that will set the conception for future generations and ourselves? In other words, like the topic says, what will we remember the 2000's for? For example, we remember the 80's for awful (no offense) hair metal, the 70's for disco music and the 60's/70's for the Vietnam War.

I think some crucial things are obviously the Internet, 9/11 and the invasion of Iraq. I'll leave the rest for you to speculate.

Pretty much, however I disagree on you calling all the music in the decade shitty, some of us actually grew up in the 00's and actually liked the entertainment provided to us.(actually I spent the first six years of my life in the 90's, but obviously I don't remember shit... heh)

Terrorist attacks, an idiotic hillbilly president, a war designed simply so he could steal oil from the middle east, global warming, the green movement, a new world destroying pandemic seemingly every 2 years, and numerous more awful things. Face it, the double zeros sucked. I miss the 90's.

I ponder this occasionally, and was going to make this topic eventually myself.

Fall of Saddam Hussein
Continuation of trouble in the Middle East (since the fucking 50s)
9/11
George W. Bush
First somewhat black president
Less than mediocre economy, not just in the U.S. but worldwide
Extreme various medical/science advancements
First hints of global disaster to occur in the coming years if measures aren't taken
Hopefully it will be remembered for how BAD the music was, but keep in mind, it's popular because people like it--- Maybe these generations will mature and realize at a later age that it truly was bad.
Expansion of the internet
Futuristic gaming taking its very first breaths
The clothes - What would people in 2100 think about our attire?
Large Hadron Collider (Fits under science advancements)

Can't come up with anything else off the top of my head at the moment

Your forgot the nineties. The Vietnam War was pretty much over in the seventies, technically not over until '75 but by than most people outside of southern Asia had completely forgotten about it, I think that Nixon getting impeached, the feminist movement and the Nov 4th plane hijacking where fifty-two Americans where taken as hostages by Muslim Extremists pretty much setting the tone for America-Middle East relations for the next thirty years. If all you have for eighties was hair metal than that's pretty sad. What about the Reagen Era, the eighties recession and the regression of the Russian Soviet state?

Good point, gaming has never advanced as fast in these 10 years as it has in the last 30.

I wonder what general music genre will be remembered. In the fifties, there's rockabilly. The sixties there's rock and the first hints of metal . Seventies is all about disco. Eighties is mostly New Wave and the nineties is mostly pop and eurodance. But what will the naughties be famous for?
