I dunno...I think the parents did the right thing here. Most transgendered individuals knew almost from their first concious thought what gender they were supposed to be; trying to change their thinking to correspond to what their body is would cause only a childhood full of pain and confusion.

That being said, it seems this article blew the lid off of this child's new life and put in jeopardy his/her new start.

So years upon years and thousands of people who research Psychology are totally wasting their time. You can't prove anything, but you ascertain certain things and you can't just pan off everyone as lying when they say they are transgendered. Whatever. The kids not getting a sex change and he probibly wont until he's at least in his late twenties. There are still rules about what qualifies someone for a sex change... I forget what they're called though and I don't feel like looking it up.

This is probibly what the kids going to do, they will most likely take androgen blockers to post pone puberty for a short little while, spend two or three years talking to a psychiatrist and if everything seems like it's in order then they'll take actual female hormones.

I'd guess they'd probably start taking the hormones when they turn eighteen, but it could be a couple years sooner than that. Than they'll spend the next eight to ten years transitioning until they finally get the final procedures.

They will be forced to pay thousands of dollars so I'm sure that if they really wanted this they'd have to do well in school and get a well paying job. And the expenses will help fuel our economy. So if you want to save the economy, get a sex change.

The looks of people who are transgendered vary just like the rest of us. Not all biological women are model gorgeous and softly feminine; not all biological men are burly and have deep, sonorous voices.

But to me, this is exactly why it is a good thing that these parents started early. Their child now has a much greater chance of looking like a soft, feminine female than if they had waited and allowed the jaw, chest and shoulders to broaden and masculinize and the voice to deepen. Then it would take some very expensive surgery to correct and even so, their child would stand a much greater chance of looking more like a "drag queen" than a biological female.

What are you basing this on? Some pictures you googled? You can't pick out transgendered people because once they've made the change, that's it, they're female/male then and most likely wouldn't want to be referred to as their previous sex.

There are successful transgendered operations which you would have no idea that they used to be the opposite sex, you just choose to have a narrow view on the subject. Not to mention the later they leave the change the harder it is. As in your stupid example picture.

The problem with a a transgender transition is that although androgen blockers can prevent the male body from creating more testosterone and hormone pills can let it create female characteristics, there really isn't anything that reverses the effects of puberty. They really can't erase that unless they get extensive plastic surgery.

But if a boy where to get ahead of the curb and start androgen blockers and hormone therapy before the effects of puberty... in most cases they wouldn't end up looking like that. They might look a little androgynous, but chances are you wouldn't even notice.

I'll let the reader decide whether or not that is a good thing. I'm not really picking sides, I'm just throwing what I know on the subject out there.

When I was pregnant with my second child, I thought long and hard about what I would do if my child was born with ambiguous genitalia (did you guys know that is the most common birth defect?) or later showed a gender identity situation. I pretty much came to the same consensus these parents did and frankly, I applaud them.

Who honestly gives a damn if it's 'gay', that's so childish. If you want to be that specific on semantics then having sex with a pre-op transgendered could be considered gay, but once they've had the operation and they're a female, that's it. it doesn't matter what they were before, they go through the whole process to become male/female and that's what they are by the end of it.

And not only that, but there is a fundamental difference between being transgendered and being "gay" or "transexual". A transgendered person is a girl trapped in a male's body and vice versa. This is a birth defect, not a decision. They have proven that a person could look like a very masculine male and have the DNA of a female; there is such a thing as testicular feminization where someone that looks as feminine as any girl is biologically a guy (there have been cases where women have seen a doctor to find out why they are not menstruating only to find out they are biologically male). Why would correcting this flaw with medicine and then allowing the individual to go on and live as the gender they always knew they were meant to be and have what I personally see as a heterosexual relationship? Why would that make anyone "gay"?
