If he's been displaying and acting in the gender role of a girl since he was 2, then I'd be safe to say that it's good to start at 8. It's not only enough time (6 years) and he's never acted to the male gender role but it'll increase the chances he'll actually look like a girl. I'm really all for it.

Yes.. But when puberty hits and things start growing and all that jazz that's when it can be more confusing.
It just seems that identifying with a gender when not fully being aware of what you really are might bring up a lot of problems in the future.

To be honest, I think if he's been acting that way since he was 2 and has been doing it for six years, then it's safe from "is he just confused?". The thing that you have to be keep in mind is the later you leave the sex change stuff, the less natural it'll look. Doing it before puberty and doing it during puberty could mean the difference between a natural look where you're surprised she was once a he and a look where you can tell from a mile of she used to be a he due to weirdly masculine things about her (e.g. voice).

Sex is biological, this meaning what your body is.
Gender is what people identify themselves as, either being a male or female in mind.

You can't prove anything, but you ascertain certain things and you can't just pan off everyone as lying when they say they are transgendered. I thought that when a boy was to be transgendered to a girl (and girl transgendered to boy), they would later on in life suffer depression-related issues. If there is nothing the boy can think of doing in life by his response of nothing, then his parents are failing at raising him into a man.

This is pretty fucked up. The kid is 8 years old. He hasn't even reached puberty yet. I'd at least wait until he was 13-15 years old before I took his "girlish tendencies" as serious transgender issues, because that's when the sexual side of gender would be more visible. I wouldn't want my little boy to decide to turn into a girl when he was 8 only to realize at age 14 that he doesn't like dicks inside of him.

As a psychology major, I've had to go through a couple developmental psych classes. They all went over the various stages of a person's growth and identity. The ages between 6-10 is all about gender identity. Not about sexual identity. Like whether you fit in with the boys or the girls better. What gender you feel is right.

So actually the age of 8 is the perfect age to decide to change genders.
