Is it at all possible that the Mayans just happened to get bored of writing calendars in 2012?

Just because the Mayans said 2012 doesn't mean anything will happen. That logic is the same as if I picked a random date out of a hat, and said that the world will end on that day.

No body knows the exact date the world will end, whether your religious "like me" or athiest when you think the sun will explode. We can all make estimates (some more intelligent than others" but we can never know for sure.

I remember that every one thought something bad was going to happen on 6/6/06. (the number of the beast is 616 you numb skulls)

Not at all.
"People" are not very educated on the topic. Ever sicne the 2012 prophecy became popular it has been completly changed, especially by channels such as Discovery Channel. The world WILL not end, it wasn't supposed to in the first place...The original prophecy is from the Mayan calendar which focuses on the 2012 Winter Solstice Allighnment. In other words the plates in the Earth are supposed to change do to the postition of the sun.

THIS is where the "what-if?" factor comes in. There might be huge weather abnormalaties, some species dying (99.99% chance not humans) ect, due to this change in the Earth. I read a few books on this topic. I didn't really explain much in this post so you can PM me if your actually care and are interested in this topic of "doomsday".
