Parasitic flies turn fire ants into zombies
The flies "dive-bomb" the fire ants and lay eggs. The maggot that hatches inside the ant eats away at the brain, and the ant starts exhibiting what some might say is zombie-like behavior.

There's some fungus that releases its spores into ants' heads, which fucks up the ants brains and makes them climb up high and then die, after which the fungus sprouts from the ant's head.
Planet earth is an awesome series.

That's crazy, reminds me of that video someone posted of a caterpillar that has its mind warped by wasp larvae living inside it, and causes the caterpillar to protect the wasp's kids until it dies of starvation.
I've heard of these flies before. If I remember right, when the fire ants start panicking, they produce a chemical as a signal for the other ants. But the flies have evolved to use this chemical as an aphrodisiac. So when the ants spread this chemical around, the flies KNOW that now is the optimal time to mate and lay eggs into the ants' brains. In other words, the ants' survival mechanism has been hijacked by the predators and is being used against them.
NOTE: not sure if this is scientifically accurate.

I suppose it's not hard to turn ants into zombies. They're practically zombies as it is.
