And I don't mean the video game >:(

I mean I'm going to start deleting a lot more topics than I currently do. It may not seem like it, since I'm sure you guys run into so many shit topics and think "Why the hell hasn't this been deleted yet?" But really, I delete a good amount of crap here on any given day, which is ridiculous since this forum doesn't move very quickly.

Mainly I tend to get rid of repeat topics and advertisements, but I'm really getting tired of seeing poorly thought out topics with just a few lines and not much of a point to exist. Sure, we may not have any topics about the video game A Boy and His Blob, but if you make one and all you write is "hey guyz anybody rember a boy n his blob for nes? that was 1 of my favrite gamez lets talk about it here!" It's going to get deleted. Now if you make a topic about A Boy and His Blob and you actually use correct spelling, grammar, and it isn't just two lines of shit about how you played the Rom one time when you were 15 years old (and currently you are 16,) then it's all good.

So before making a new, shitty thread and plaguing this forum with your filth, ask yourself these questions:

1.) Can I spell/use proper grammar?
2.) Will anybody care about this topic and will it actually create discussion?
3.) Has it been done before?
4.) Is what I have to say about this subject going to comprise of more than a couple lines?

There you go, that's really all there is to it. If you find one of your threads missing, it's probably because it didn't pass the DirtySyko verification process and did not receive the DirtySyko Seal of Quality.

Or another mod could have deleted it because they also thought it was a piece of shit post.

Is it okay to make a topic about SANDVICH?

Yeah that's great and all but the question still stands. Xbox 360, Playstation 3 or Wii. Which one is better?

I have pretty much stopped visiting this forum because of the utter crap/fanboy posts that are becoming far too frequent so I am happy to hear this. I would have to assume that the topic of video games brings out far too many immature 14 year old children; therefore, the low quality of topics.

I wish you luck, I am sure that you will need it.

GOOD

It does really seem like it's only you or BBM that check the VG forum most of the time, so obviously there can't be constant monitoring. The amount of times I see the same 'Wich console do u think is bettuur?' or 'MASTER CHIEF VS MARCUS FENIX?!' just makes me bang my head against the desk. As if these people think they're the first ones to make the topic and most of the time they don't even check the first page of threads nevermind use the searchbar.

Sounds fine to me. Sometimes I wish more forum mods would come to this place to actively go through the topics than what currently happens with you, Jerc, BBM, and maybe the odd appearance by SevenSeize. I know you guys already clean up, but by all means increase this forums' standards to make it better.

Excuse the /b/, but...

Very cute.

In all seriousness though this is why I have been making the "Official_________thread" threads to keep more things organized. I have only done about 3 as of now but I'm planning on having myself and hopefully a few other people organize threads to keep similar content pertaining to one game in one thread. I don't want there to be an official thread for everything, but you understand where I am going with this.

Another thing is there is a shortage of mods. BBM, Jerc and yourself are really the only regular moderators in the forums. The community may not be small but pointless topics are made quickly and often.

The terrible thing about this thread is... The majority of people posting so far are the regulars of VG, and Newgrounds, who are already competent posters. Everyone else probably clicks the thread, realizes it isn't about Brawl, and backs out.

But, I'll try to keep it bumped from time to time to remind everyone, and hopefully people start taking the initiative to make this forum better. If not, my ban list is never very big, and lately I've had the urge to be an asshole ^_^

Well that's the thing. Most of the time the people that make the awful threads are ones that have signed up 2 days ago, not read the rules, saw there was a Video Game forum and immediately make a thread about who their favourite Brawl character is.

All they need is a slap on the wrist and telling them to search for topics that have already been made.

While we're on the topic of cracking down, lemme throw out a few things that have always bugged me that I generally let slide. Since this is a more self-contained forum with a smaller group of visitors and mods I'm going to throw this out for consideration here rather than discussing it solely amongst mods.

First off, "What should I buy" threads. I cracked down heavily on them when the forum first opened, but people seemed happy to jump into them and other mods did too so I backed off, but they still bother me. It seems like an attempt to make a thread when one has no capability of coming up with an interesting topic and even if the OP really does want advice it just ends up being people posting the same lists of games that they've posted in every other suggestion thread. I've thought of proposing a singular "official" suggestion thread, but if everyone is against me on this, including mods I'll just leave it be.

Secondly, favorite <insert game/console/genre>. If this were general they'd be banned from day one, but since it's specifically a video game forum I thought it unfair since they were bound to pop up. Still, they're mostly just made, once again, by people who are desperate to make a topic that people will reply to and take the easiest route. From my point of view I think we'd be better off without them, but I'm just fishing for other people's opinions at this point.

Could a possible solution to the problem be that we need to make an official "Flame-War" thread? I know as mods, you don't like flame wars, but maybe if you sacrificed one thread so that people can bitch and moan about their favorite consoles, you'd solve a lot of problems. Plus, once this was implemented, you could totally let loose and ban those who continue to make "Which is the best console" threads and have a good reason behind it.

The same could be done with the "which game should I buy" threads. Maybe if you made an official "Game purchasing suggestions" thread, you could cut back on the amount of crap, or at the very least, have a good reason for immediately deleting the topics and banning the offending users.

Any of this sound reasonable?

While other mods have mentioned the topics being made, I'll just throw out a word against trolling.

Don't do it.

Or else.

And also, I don't need to see the same broken record in every GTA4, Halo 3, Fable 2, and Bioshock thread.

We get it, some of you guys don't like the game. If it's already been said, don't bother saying it again yourself.

I really don't like the idea of an official "flame wars" topic. I mean on paper it sounds like a good idea but most people who "hate" a console with openly say it in any thread and aren't going to pertain to the one thread. I don't think we should encourage it at all. I do believe there was an official console wars topic made earlier on in the VG section's life but that didn't do much obviously.

As for a game suggestions thread, I wouldn't mind. Most users have a certain genre of gaming they know a lot about so if a person asks how Fable II is someone who is a RPG fan could respond on what they thought compared to the other games they have played in the similar genre and if it is worth picking up. Something like the Review thread. I'm not totally sold on this idea but it isn't too far fetched.

I agree completely with both of these. I've deleted many "favorite" threads, but sometimes I just let them slide if they are slightly more thought out. And as far as the "What should I buy" threads, most of the time I don't bother with them, but I dislike them as much as you, so I don't oppose an official thread, or just deleting them every time they pop up.

No, that's not a very good idea. The goal should be to weed out the poorly made discussions, not to give them a place to hide and fester.

The same could be done with the "which game should I buy" threads. Maybe if you made an official "Game purchasing suggestions" thread, you could cut back on the amount of crap, or at the very least, have a good reason for immediately deleting the topics and banning the offending users.

That's my personal ideal solution, I just don't see many people, aside from me, who point out recommendation threads as one of this forum's issues. I'd like to see how alone I am on this one before I decide whether or not to do anything.

It's a shame, but I for one will tone down. It's just kind of fun because it's the videogame board. It's almost intended to be like this. But if I see any mods troll, I'd like to join in lol

Oh and on a related note I have no idea why I haven't been banning for trollface. It isn't a constructive post, nor is anything along the lines of "oh look at me I think you're a troll".

Grow up kids.
