I highly recommend it, especially if you're thinking of getting the sequel this fall.

I actually wrote a review of the game on my website very recently, so everything I can say about the game has already been written down there. I don't mean to shamelessly advertise my own writing, but it would be silly of me not to point it out, since you're asking for opinions.

It's got a pretty decent story behind it but the fps is sketchy, unless your getting it dirt cheap i think it should be rented first.

Just completed it myself. Amazing game.

Hell yeah bioshock is such an incredible game kept me enthralled for hours. Great storyline as well, just amazing.

Even if I were to make a game, it certainly wouldn't be a shitty attempt to crib a game from 1999 and make it play worse and put it in a setting that was fucking stupid.

Get the game because it is a very fuckin awesome FPS that has everything from a wrench (which can be upgrade to surprise enemies from behind,swinging it faster, and swing it stronger than humanly possible.) to shot guns and even to crossbows that can snipe people at distances. All the weapons excluding the wrench has 3 powerful types of ammo. Bioshock also has plasmids , special powers that range from fire and ice type stuff, to insects distracting the enemy for you to aim your favorite gun at their head then get one dead splicer or Big Daddy. Finally, because I'm to lazy to write a lot, you are crafted to enter Rapture and meet Atlas at the beggining of the game to try and kill Andrew Ryan and then the little sister , whick you SHOULD NOT kill the 1st time you play will prove to be your one and true ally
