According to Famitsu, many reasons have forced legendary developer Hideo Kojima to go multiplatform with the second next gen game, including underwhelming sales of Metal Gear Solid 4 and the reaction of the fans
When I look at PS3 and PS2, I see not only a difference in hardware, I also see a difference in the community. When I look at Xbox 360, I see opportunity. The PS brand is not enough for the Metal Gear Saga anymore.

Oh my, terrible news.
Well, to me, the consumer, I guess not. If the next game came out on the 360 and the PS3, nothing could stop me from purchasing it for the PS3 right? But then PS3s will get less money. I can't say Sony's been the greatest company during this generation. Their high and mighty attitude can piss off, but if any company should leave, it's the one that entered the Console War for fun.

Since Raiden means "thunder and lightning" in Japanese, and the preview mainly shows a storm, we can assume Raiden will be the main character.
