Well, if you've been following my posts, you'd have all known that my brother has been extremely ill lately, but no medicines have been working. Just today, he had an appointment with his (psychological) doctor. For ten years, he's been wasting his life sleeping until 2 in the afternoon. We've been telling him over and over to try antidepressants, but he simply refuses, saying it'll turn him into a robot, and that if he takes that stuff, he'll lose all his pride. Today, my parents planned to have him talk about it to the doctor and they intend for him to get a prescription. They talked about it last night, and he went insane as expected. He did actually get up and drive the car over to have the appointment, but I don't know what's going on. I keep fearing he's going to come driving home early to cheat the appointment, but I hope he gets it.

Everyone, please pray for us and hope for the best. This is a big step in his life, and probably our lives for that matter. There's no guarantee antidepressants will work, but I think it's worth a try. What is everyone's thoughts on this?

Why do people act like depression is some sort of disease? Depression is a choice. Whoop his ass when he acts all emo. Drag his butt outside at the asscrack of dawn. Dude, you're fucking stupid. DEPRESSION IS NEVER A CHOICE. It is SOMETIMES a disease. Some kind of psychological disorder. But I prefer to think it's a phase. If the roller coaster never went down, it couldn't go up again.

And depression is not about poverty. It's not about money. It's about asking yourself is there really is a point to live. You're depressed when you can't find a reason to live, most of the time.

Get back in your hole where life is good and you don't have to worry about anything. Too bad you'll never get an idea of the world then though.

I, myself would never recommend anti-depressants. The best way is always to get through it by yourself, though it is the hardest. But, it's the most effective way. I think he needs to get a view on life that makes it worth living for him. But I understand it's not that easy as it seems. He needs to be asked the right questions in order to get him thinking about things. But I understand as it's been going on for 10 years, and you all probably tried tons of things, this might be better for a temporary fix, allthough he'll still have to go through it to find a lifepath.

Good. You know, maybe he should go on a vacation, like somewhere great that's outdoors. i.e. The Grand Canyon, an Ocean, hiking, etc.

What's the problem with wanting support and unbiased opinions? When you post your irl problem on NG, you get people replying funny things, people replying helpful things and people calling you a douche. Believe it or not, it's fun to get all three reactions.
