Hope those guys do good. Great times that I wouldn't imagine being able to run. My time is a little over 5 minutes. D: I think 5:14 or something like that, which may not be good for a guy, but I also don't ever run a mile faster than a warm up run.

The last couple of days I've been moving my girlfriends family out of her house and into their new house and let me tell you what... I'm not going to run for another couple of days or so because taking those beds and dressers down and up the stairs did a number on me. It's one of the best workouts I've had in the last couple of weeks.

Nothing was over 200 pounds, but just the constant up and down the stairs was enough for me.

As for the benching your own body weight, it's not bad if you don't lift much. You should be able to start with at least your own body weight. Don't worry if you keep lifting you'll go up in weight fast. I can get my body weight somewhere around 30 times give or take a few depending on the day.

But as a distance runner you should deffinitely stay close to your body weight or lower and get high reps for tone so you don't get too bulky.
Mile and under isn't affected too much by having muscle mass.

In case you guys didn't know, you might be interested by the Nike Prefontaine classic, it's on right now on NBC. Going on down here in Eugene (about an hour away from me) at my rival school. They have one of the nicest track and field stadiums ever.

Then again, when you have Phil Knight paying shit tons of money to your school, I guess you can kind of afford it. Stupid Nike.

For a warm up run, 5:14 is pretty damn fast..

Haha, yea. I had to help move my friend out roughly a year ago and it was a pain in the ass. A good workout, but completely trashed my next week of running.

I'm not really looking to get stronger at lifting, just more reps as MrTristen said.

Ahh, I missed it. Stupid LPGA tour is on right now. I hate golf so much.

Ah ha, no. I don't run a 5:14 as a warm up. I'm saying 5:14 is what I think the fastest time I've ever ran was. If I could run that as a warm up I think I would have taken up longer distance in high school.

I'm not really looking to get stronger at lifting, just more reps as MrTristen said.

You want to be able to do more reps, but not looking to become stronger. Ha, you have to become stronger to do more reps. They go together. You could bench the same weight over and over week after week and you won't get many more reps. Maybe another three, but unless you go up and weight eventually your just going to stick at that number.

For you though I wouldn't even worry about bench like you said. Just kind of do whatever upper body and work on low weight high repetition on your legs. For a sprinter it would be the opposite. I'd also focus on the abs and lower back. The lower back just because if you do something like abs you should always do it's opposite such as the lower back. Same with doing the equal amount of biceps and triceps, etc.. Very important to work your hamstrings and quads equally. I didn't and I blame my turn hamstring a little on the fact that I just worked my quads and put my hamstrings on the back burner.

I bench twice a week. First day you have to go heavier so the 2nd day you can actually do more reps. It just doesn't work any other way. If there's another way that's legal then someone would be making money off of it.

Anyway, I did something today that I haven't done in a long time. Went for a run in a pool. I like running about 20 laps or so and then turning around and going into the whirlpool that's created. I also love running in the water because your cooled down and even if you do sweet your already soaking wet. If I had a pool I'd do that everyday. Sadly I don't.

I always thought swimming under water and holding my breathe as long as I could helped out during track season for getting into shape. Maybe it does maybe it doesn't, but I'm sure it doesn't hurt at all.

Actually if you lift every other day and don't focus on your legs at all you can just go up in reps all week and start back the next week. I also enjoy running in the pool, since my fascia is really tight normally, so running makes it hurt like hell.
Swimming in the pool will help with your chest, and doing no breath laps is good for lung capacity.

Take it from me if you tried doing that you wouldn't ever go up in reps week after week. It may happen for a little bit, but until you lift for strength the reps won't come along. I know because for the longest of time I was stuck benching 225 a total of 15 times. No matter how much I did it I couldn't get any more reps. I tried for probably a month or so and couldn't get anymore. I found out that the secret was to lift for strength one time during the week and then reps the 2nd time and I shot up from 15 to 20 times in a matter of two weeks.

I'm sure I'll be up to 25 before the end of the year following the same pattern. Not only is it the best way, but it's really the only way that works.

So I try to do the same thing with my legs, even though they have gone to hell lately. I'll start back up with them when college starts again though. One day for power and then the other day for reps. Everday is ab day though. And avoiding a muscle group isn't very smart. Get all of them while your at it.

You know, i'm really a firm believer that your abs and core are just like your other muscles. You shouldn't work them out every day, they need a rest too.

I can never seem to get a work out with them no matter how much I do them. I guess I don't ever take a break with abs just because I never feel a burn in them. I remember doing something like 400 or 500 crunches one night and just saying to myself. "It doesn't even work.."

I was also doing other things with them, but it just always seems like I can keep going and never get anything out of them.

Now in the weight room I can get some weighted exercises with them and they work fine, but they heal overnight and I just do them the next day. I'm sure it's different for different people though. And my abs are far from being in great shape. Maybe their amazing under the small layer of fat though who knows.

I told myself the same thing. Too much fat covering it up. You should try P90X Ab Ripper X workout. You won't say your abs don't burn after that. First time I tried it I was sore for three days straight.

Heard of that. Friend was out for a week. Afraid to try it out, but I might.

Does that P90X thing actually work? I've been on the fence about ordering it for the longest time, just to see, but if it does work, I don't have any reason not to.

Yea it works really great. There's easy ways to get it another way you know.

But remember P90X is for people that are in decent shape, but are looking to reach that next level.

You know I forgot all about that. I started downloading it at college, but that was about when my computer crashed so I never actually ended up ever even watching it. When I'm back at college the 19th I'll download that again and try it out.

Was going to go for a run this morning, but it decided to storm from 3 in the morning to about 6. Couldn't get a wink of sleep between those times because of it either. I don't know if I ever heard a storm so loud. Too tired for a run this morning. We'll see how I feel throughout the rest of the day though.

I know, it was crazy! I was in my history class writing my essay for the final exam and couldn't go more than 30 seconds without jumping a little from the immense thunder.

On a side note, has anyone else every experienced this. Keep this in mind, I haven't been sick in years. But for the last two weeks since I've stopped running I've been sick three times and currently have a sore throat. I think this may have something to do with my body being used to physical activity and when I suddenly stopped something happened? I don't know, it just sucks.

I want to get that, but I'm always skeptical about those commercials. I think there lying just to sell their product, but I have heard some good things about this one. Over the summer, I may want to try it out.

Ha, must of been the same storm. Mine was from about 3 to 5 in the morning give or take an hour. Don't get me wrong I love thunder storms, but that was just quite annoying.

Yeah, that use to happen to me during finals week during college because I would stop working out so I had more time to study/rest for finals and I would end up getting sick all of the time. Basically the same thing that you are explaining now. I remember asking my health teacher why that happens and she told me, but I can't remember the reason behind it all. Oh well, I'm a college student.. I don't remember things more than a week old let alone a year old.

Side note here too. Tore all of the skin off of the back of my heel falling down today. At first I thought it just hurt like hell, but when I realized that all of the skin was hanging off of my foot... that it was a little more serious. No running from me for a little it. I'm sure even swimming my hurt a little.

I think it hit here around 8ish. Loudest one I've heard in a while. It even sent a power surge throughout the school which set off the fire alarms. So we had to go outside in the pouring rain :/

Classic abrasion. Just had my health exam so all these terms are in my head lol. There so painful because the nerve endings become exposed. Only treatment is to apply any anti-bacterial ointment you may have or just rinse thoroughly. Keep off of it for a little while too, as you said.

I feel like such a tool

I know this will be off subject, but I just took my first SAT test. It was the most hardest test I've ever taking in my life. I'm going to be taking it again in December, and hopefully do better on my 2nd try. They say first time horrible, then 2nd time decent, then your 3rd should be your best, so it'll average out the scores. I'm wondering, if you have a 3.0 GPA, does it really matter what score you get when you apply for college? I heard you can blow the test, but because of that 3.0, college's will accept you (certain college's).

Dude, you get up way too early. I know I'm a Marine and I should be able to get up early blablablabla. But I hate getting up early. I'm a sleep in person. I go run at like 2-3ish.

It's weird though cause during the week I can never wake myself up, even with alarms for school earlier than like 9. But when it comes to anything military I have to do, i'll get up at 3 or 4 real fast with one alarm.

Yeah, that's what it was. *See picture on bottom of post* It's not too bad, but I guess it really doesn't matter what it looks like when it stings like a bitch. At least the skin stayed on even though now it's dying and falling off. I'm too much of a wussy to just pull it off so it'll come off when it comes off.

It'll only be about 9 hours. I'll start it in the morning and let it go all day while I'm in class and stuff. As long as I'm not downloading anything at the same time. I remember downloading 10 movies at a time and them taking 2 days each.

Well I didn't want to get up. I only wanted to go for a run around 8 because later is when it starts getting hot. 2-3 is one of the hottest times of the day.

Another rainy day here and I want to stay off of my foot for another day so I guess I'm not doing much again. Didn't really go swimming yesterday, but I walked around in the pool. Didn't hurt my foot at all so I guess when it gets warm I can start running in the pool again.

Also found some monkey bars in a nearby park so I'm going to work the upper body a little while I can't go to the gym.

I didn't think that the SAT was that bad, I did decent my first try..

570 - Critical Reading
600 - Math
570 - Writing

I also just took the one in June, I think I did better in Math but know I did worse in Writing and Critical Reading. It's really the luck of the draw as to what sections are hard and what are easy. That's why you want to take it three or so times so hopefully you can get an easy portion on each section.

Good luck! Be sure to post how you did when the scores come back.

Yea well I have a slow 150Kb/s connection. It takes a while especially if you're downloading the full DVDs, cause then it's a 60 gig download. (13 DVDs at 4 gig each)

You need to get a pull-up bar. I got one for like 20 bucks, stick it to a door frame and pull ups anytime.

Skin or no skin, that ain't safe for work. Ishh. Grody.

I had a guy when I was in boot camp he had this huge ass blister on the bottom of his foot. It had to be about 6 inches wide. Literally it was as wide as his foot. THAT was nasty.

Nobody gets their scores back until June 25th. Also, those scores are impossible considering score are in intervals of 10. So I'm calling your bluff, do I win or is there an explanation?

Nobody gets their scores back until June 25th. Also, those scores are impossible considering score are in intervals of 10. So I'm calling your bluff, do I win or is there an explanation?

ROFL

And you take SATs at 16 now? I thought that was a senior's thing.

But I did got them back. Unless this was a example score...I have no clue. I've probably read my results wrong, since I'm long sighted.

When I first looked at that picture I thought it was a fingernail with no nail lol. It still looks really bad, though. Smart choice to work on the upper body until that heals up.

Hmm, well I should have included the other foot in the picture because I don't have a big right toenail. I had to have surgery on it because the nail got ingrown and started to grow into the bone. I'll never have a nail on that foot again. It looks pretty cool now, but I got some bloody pictures of the after surgery if you want to see. :P

you have hairy-ass legs :P

Yea well I have a slow 150Kb/s connection. It takes a while especially if you're downloading the full DVDs, cause then it's a 60 gig download. (13 DVDs at 4 gig each)

I'm just going to get the Ab one though. Anyway, you should see my internet at home. I have 36 kb/s! Yay for dial up and everything. I can't watch flash submissions over 500 kb unless I feel like waiting for a long time. It may say 36 kb a second, but it doesn't really matter since half of the pages don't even load all the way. On average I saw it takes me 5 minutes just to load an entire page of a thread that has more than 5 posts.

At college things are a bit different. Still what I would consider slow internet. You can't play games online or anything because they lag way too much, but it's still beats dial up any day.

That's why I run inside hehe.

Again, when I'm back at college I'll have the gym and then the indoor track above the gym. I'm always in my best of shape while at college because I have the resources. When I'm at home I have a dirt road to run on and that's about it.

You need to get a pull-up bar. I got one for like 20 bucks, stick it to a door frame and pull ups anytime.

Corky of the jungle again.. I have to use a tree limb in my front yard while I'm at home. I'm currently at my girlfriends though so I had to find something else.

Skin or no skin, that ain't safe for work. Ishh. Grody.

I had a guy when I was in boot camp he had this huge ass blister on the bottom of his foot. It had to be about 6 inches wide. Literally it was as wide as his foot. THAT was nasty.

Yeah, my uncle use to tell me about boot camp when he was in the Vietnam war. He said they would get blisters the side of their feet and a "doctor" would come along the beds with a needle and poke everyone's blisters.

I couldn't imagine. Especially since I have a phobia of sharp objects. I'll literally faint if someone did that.

I didn't take them until I was a senior. Everyone else was taking them before and then again their senior year for a better score. My first and last test was enough for me. I have to take similar ones for my major at college.

Time to get this back into action. Ran 30 blocks around my neighborhood. Didn't stretch. To make this story short, I pulled both my calf and thigh.

I'm out for 2 freaking weeks.

I started jogging recently to lose some weight and I've ran one and a half miles one jog and two miles on another run. I find it quite fulfilling and enjoyable. Also I've considered joining the track team at my school.

Drop me a PM to talk about junk, serious or silly.
