I've been contemplating making this for some time, but I wasn't sure how many NG'ers actually run. So if it takes off, cool. If it doesn't, let it die an honorable death.

Anyways, here the ground works.

Purpose : To discuss running in general. Such as mileage, injuries, training, etc..

Who can join? : Anyone who currently runs or is thinking about starting to run. Here, we can help you get the proper plan for starting to change your life physically. Such as a training plan, shoes and the such.

How to join : Simply say you want to, and your in. Post your PR's ( personal records ) if you currently run or state your goals if you haven't started yet. All levels of running are encouraged.

Rules :

1. Standard BBS rules.
2. Don't say you hate running, keep it to yourself.
3. No spam.
4. Don't brag if your better than someone.
5. Get better! The point of this is to try and improve your times and distance.

Straying into casual conversation is cool too, because when your running you can't just think about times. It's a great time to think about life, and basically anything happening.

Personal PR's :

2:14 - 800 meters
5:06 - 1600 meters
11:15 - 3200 meters
18:30 - 5k

So, have fun and share your experiences here!

I run. It's part of my job haha.

My best 3 mile time is a 20 minute. This summer i'm pretty intent on getting closer to 18. Probably have a few pounds to shed before I get there. I'm 175 need to drop to about 160 probably.

I usually do 4-5 mile runs and intervals.

Hm. My best mile was about 7 minutes. If I recall it was 7:43

This sounds like a rather cool club.

Hardcore! 20 minutes isn't bad at all. That's short enough where some track workouts would really help lower your time rather than running 4-5 miles everyday. Try doing 8 repeat 800's, and gradually lower the time.

What kind of time between each? and how much faster than my pace?

I have a little bit of a different style of running than what I expect to see in this club, but hey it's still running!

I'm more into sprints than I am long distance. I can go long distance, but it's just not very fun in my opinion. Just something I'll do if I'm extremely bored.

My PR's.

100 Meter - 11.53 seconds
200 Meter - 24.00 seconds
400 Meter - 54.00 seconds

Not the fastest, but district times back in high school for my area.

I haven't ever really ran a timed even other than those and perhaps the mile back in gym class in high school. My time back then was around 5:30 seconds I'm pretty sure. It's been awhile though.

I'll be sure to come back and tell some track stories for sure!

Well, it depends if you want a strength workout or a speed workout. For strength, take about a 1 1/2 minute rest and do 8 - 10 at around 2:50 if you can.

For a speed workout, give yourself around 4 minutes rest but try to get your time down to 2:30. I'm not sure if these times are right for you, but adjust it to your own needs.

Nice times! I never ran any races in those events, but I run them for workouts. On my last 800 race, I ran the first 400 in 60 seconds.

As for 200, I've never run them faster than 28. I'm all slow-twitch muscle :(. But if I were to run a race, maybe I could get it down to 26.

Good job on the times though. Not often you see an avid weight lifter that runs that fast.

Well, this is my freshman year, and can't wait for Cross in the summer. Cross is amazing in the summer, because we run around the hosts house, and they feed us. The host is anyone on the team.
So pancakes every day, and our Cross camp. Cross is amazing until mid-season, where the 70 miles a week starts to hurt everything. I've never been injured from running, only sores and bruises. THe only thing close to an injury was when I was at "Walsh" a cross-race in Ohio. There I was in second place, and I slipped in mud since I didn't have spikes, and Cut open my knee and got rocks stuck into it. Well ,here was my speel, whats yours.

It's weird that you say that because I totally agree, but I wouldn't if I the only runners I saw were around my area. Almost all of the sprinters at districts for track were well over 220 pounds and pure muscle. Guys that just lifted all of the time. I think it's just the area that I live in though since it's a big farm area and people tend to be pretty big here, but yet at the same time maintain their speed.

I've slowed down greatly though. I've torn both of my hamstrings and have had several other problems. I sprinted for the first time since my football games last summer and could only manage a 12.3 on the 100 meter. I'm fine with that now though.

I love Track. Its been one of my most favorite competitive sports in the world. I'm currently a jumper this year, but I have been doing sprints, though I sadly been slowing down.

Times:
100m-11.48
200m-22.98
400m-55.24

Jumps:
Long Jump-19ft'6'
Triple Jump-40ft'2'

I'd like to know a few pointers from any of the sprinters here on the best way to get my original speed back. Since jumping really just requires more power then the velocity in the run, I've been losing my speed and just really power striding. I'll take any tips, and now I sadly run a 11.82 on a 100m.

I've always been amazed to see big guys run as fast as they can. It's like defying physics or something. Truly amazing feats.

Slowing down? Those times look pretty good to me. My fastest 100 is like a 12.5, but I'm long distance.

I guess if you want to get them down even more hit the leg weights and do repeat 100's and 200's with a lot of rest. That way, you fully recover between each one and can focus on speed rather than endurance.

If you want to focus more on improving your 400 time rather than 100 and 200 time, than do some more endurance stuff. We do a workout called "Crazy Eights" and it's were you do a 200, wait 10 seconds, do a 200, wait 10 seconds, do a 200, wait 10 seconds, do a 200, wait 10 seconds. Than you get a 5 minute break. The point of it is to work on endurance and keep the speed steady, something you'll need for the 400 race.

Seriously huh? I've just went to a CCC championship to advance to Sections. It was hosted at Atwater, CA. The guys there were huge! They seriously looked like college athletes.

And thanks for that tips Terrorist. I'll seriously try it on Monday. I've been meaning to subtract 5 seconds on my 400, because the fastest 400 sprinter in our league runs it in 49.9 secs.

Though he's a senior, I wont be having that competition next year. Most guys in our league runs 53's.

Weird time combination here. What I would like to call an average/good 100 time, but for some reason a great 200 time, and then a very average 400 time. (Not trying to say your bad or good, since you faster than me on the 100 and 200, but just weird how it went decent, good, decent.)

Jumps:
Long Jump-19ft'6'
Triple Jump-40ft'2'

I was once a decent Triple-jumper. I could get somewhere around 38 feet, but I ended up dropping it so I could be in all running events or if they needed me to throw shot-put I could do that too. I had a lot of fun jumping though.

I never practiced for dropping my 400 time, but what our 400 runners did was just run 400's again and again. On a hard days practice they would have to run a 400 as fast as they could, run it again a minute or two later only a second slower, etc.. They would repeat this 5 times, but if they kept failing they had to keep running them up to ten times.

Steroids were big in my town for awhile. As soon as the family that dealt them moved out the towns population of kids for some reasoned averaged 50 pounds less or so.

Perhaps a little off topic, but do any of you guys think kids are getting smaller and smaller? When I was in high school the smallest person on the football field at anytime was probably me at around 200 pounds. Now the biggest kid on the football field on my old high school team is 200 pounds.

As for the comment about the water it was kind of funny because a nearby town use to have huge kids. Just huge kids. All around six foot five inches and the high 200's for weight. It's weird because a factory not too far down stream ran into the water. Must be the drinking water for sure.

Haha, I have no idea who deals steroids here, but if I ever do find them I won't think twice before ratting them out. Most of the kids on our football team are 200ish, besides the offensive lineman who are animals of human beings.

By the way, I just got back from a track meet. I ran a 11:19 two mile. Which isn't bad, but I was kind of hoping to break my PR. I guess that a high goal considering I took three days off of running this weekend :X. Ah well, one more meet left, I'll see if I can do it.

Also, if you are ever running in the future don't drink 5 hour energy before the race. I tried it today, and felt like I was going to throw up half-way through the race. There's also no way it lasts for 5 hours, either. Because I took it 2 hours before my race and it was wearing off. So just stay away.

Yea, but 5 hour energy doesn't even do that for you.

It's like a shot of horrible-tasting acid. Just steer clear altogether.

I've never tried one of those energy drinks, but I don't plan on ever trying one of them either. I don't even drink anything or eat anything with caffiene in it. I just don't like what it does to my body. For about 10 minutes feel pretty good then I feel like I'm going to fall asleep.

I do remember eating 7 plates of spaghetti the night before our championship meet though and running PR's in every single one of my races. Those 7 plates will beat any energy drink any day.

That sure is alot of calories that you ate. And most energy drinks, if drank casually, will eventually make your body crash. So as long you just drink it to "have" that extra boost, it won't destroy your body. But I hear you, caffeine evil, a drugs that legal, haha.

Best thing to do for me to get more energy is make sure I hydrate well. Water is the one thing that most people tend to forget. I've seen drastic changes in my run times when I was hydrated versus when I was not. Make sure you get your electrolytes too though, a little bit of powerade won't hurt.

Even better, I like to drink Pedialyte. That is a pretty good boost, but it costs a bit more money.

INDOOR TRACK?!?! I'd so love to be in a indoor track. Though the cons of a indoor track is..wait, are their any cons? Perhaps fake grass, lol. So what exactly you think may run as? A long distance runner or the short distance? I think everyone with logic knows, long distance runners have huge amount of endurance and stamina, and constantly train to keep up with the same running pace they feel comfortable to do. Short distance runners obviously train on the short distance, 100m, 200m, ( I don't think 300m really counts, never heard of a event like that besides hurtles) and 400m.

ROFLCOPTER.

Pedialyte is like specialty hydration drink for babies and such.
Number 1 pediatrician recommended brand

I'm amazed you've never heard of it.

Most big colleges have indoor tracks. We have one that I run on all the time, it's pretty cool. It's on the floor above some basketball courts and there's a hole in the middle, it's just the track around the walls. It's only a tenth of a mile long which sucks cause you turn a lot more. Really bad for long distance runners like me, I like running in a straight line.

And it's not fake grass lol. Just regular track surface.

Pedialyte? I never heard of this energy drink brand before. Whats it like? Just a other Gatorade?
ROFLCOPTER.

Pedialyte is like specialty hydration drink for babies and such.
Number 1 pediatrician recommended brand

I'm amazed you've never heard of it.

It all makes sense now

INDOOR TRACK?!?! I'd so love to be in a indoor track. Though the cons of a indoor track is..wait, are their any cons? Perhaps fake grass, lol.

Thats really interesting. This weekend I'm heading over to SJSU (San Jose State University), I'm taking a tour there and checking the place out. Not sure if they have indoor track and field, but hell, its going to be my future college. But my sprinting and jumping days are over if I do go there. They only have a cross country team.

As am I. I thought it was a well known brand.

As for indoor track meets I've never actually been to one, but I wish I competed in them when I was back in highschool. I'm far too far out of shape to go run races now. I do have to get into shape here pretty soon because I'll probably be playing some semi-pro ball soon this summer.

That means suicides for me. Or jingle jangles, etc.. I don't know what other people call them. Where you sprint to the 10 yard line and back, 20 yard line and back, etc..

Every time I run on a treadmill to go faster, my heart rate increases dramatically. It's around the 120's. I think that's dangerous. :0

Are you kidding? lol.

If not, 120 is not dangerous. Unless you're 100 years old. The basic way to figure out your max heart rate is 220 - your age. so for me it's 220 - 22 = 198.

Then to train your cardio you want to go about 80% if I remember well. I train between 160-180 BPM.
