...FOR a month. Long story short, I'm going to be staying in the Osaka area studying Japanese as a student on a study abroad exchange program through my school.
Is there anything I should do to really encapsulate the 'Japan experience'? Whether that would include buying used panties from a vending machine, buying some trinket to impress my friends with, participate in a bukkake etc.?
If I'm going to make the most of this country, now would be the time to do it since I likely won't revisit it for at least one or two years (unless I absolutely revile it).
And now, a picture.

Try weird things that are different from your culture. You may find something new you like. Plus you should bring me back something.

I'd say take in the night life. From what I've seen, it looks so futuristic with all the flashing lights and everything. You'd be crazy not to take a couple nights on the town and take it all in.
If not, your bukkake idea works too, I suppose.

I've always wanted to go to Japan! How lucky of you. I say impregnate a lot of women since they have a declining population.
Also, dye your hair like three different colors.

Personally, I'd buy one of the many things that the Japanese have over there that are more advanced then what we have, like one of those super cell phones, or a portable (hopefully you can get one in NTSC) HD television with tiny 7.1 surround sound speakers. You could also buy some video games that are Japan exclusive, or some erotic light novels, and show them off to your geeky friends when you get back.
But of course, the main thing you're going to do there is master their language, and honestly, that's experience enough...
Come, follow me into the deep...

...yeah. Sound suggestion. \
On a side note, their birth rate is pretty scary these days. Nearly a quarter of the population is over 65.

Well, after just recently come back from Japan, there are several things.
1) Ride the Shinkansen. Riding on the fastest train in the world is pretty cool.
2) Visit Harajuku. If you ever want to see Japanese randomness, this is the place to go.
3) Go to Hiroshima. It's depressing, it's sad, but you need to go and see the memorial there.

Be careful there. They tend to hate anyone who isn't Asian.

Oh...it's a pity... I can always give you the address and phone number of my family in Wakayama... They live 2 hours from Osaka and they also have a nice house close to the beach... If you tell them you are an Uncle Ozcar's nephew, they'll welcome you :)
Just don't forget to bring some sake

I'm headed to Japan myself this summer too, Seika University in Tokyo for a 5 week student program. Work on my language skills. Going to be kick ass. One of my best friends is joining my class to come with us, she's in the class above ours. We're going to go to the Totoro Museum in Tokyo first, via the shinkansen.

You'll be fine. As long as you look somewhat Asian then they don't care.
Now, if you look Cocasian, then they still don't care. Really.

So you're basically telling him to ride the train for almost a thousand kilometers (or 620 miles) just to see a bunch of kids dressed like Naruto?
I'd think twice about it...

You actually believe Naruto is popular in Japan? It's consider a piece of shit.
In the month I was in Tokyo, I did not see 1 cosplayer of Naruto.
When I say randomness, I mean really random stuff. Like shirts with English that doesn't make sense.

Nice, I was going go to do a month long program in Kyoto at some school (not the same as yours) during the month of July. Decided to try the one in Osaka because...well, I guess I don't want to put up with UNGODLY SCORCHING WEATHER in Kyoto during the month of July. :p

Well, I didn't know that, Greg... But it seems you won't have any problems with the language after all... What japaneses really hate is when an american feels all "japanese" just because he's an anime fan and tries to say short sentences you'd normally see on anime and manga books...
That's what they really hate, not the fact you're foreign, but the fact you seem to make fun of their language all the time...
One of the most sacred things to Japaneses is their language....

Wow, you're a smart guy, Ozcar. I never really understood Japan's attitude towards foreigners and how it played out but in that context, it makes a lot of sense. Because I hear a lot of stuff about Westerners who enter the country and treat it like a playground with little respect. I guess that kind of makes sense why a lot of venues in the cities actively disallow foreigners. :P
Not a big fan of anime though, so I help that brings me to a cut above the rest of the 'gaijins'.

I'm more worried of the crazy monkeys and huge crows than the scorching heat. God damn those things are huge.
