Save as a 32bit bitmap image.
then import it into flash.
Will the background then be transparent?
why not just import it into flash and use the MAGIC WAND
dur...
What magic wand? That still does not work, I still have a black BG.
what i do is save as a PNG in GIMP, that always preserves my tranparent backgrounds.

ColdLogic is right, a .PNG is what you want, if the canvas is transparent then the image is transparent, with the 32bit image thing, go for it if you want but it sounds like you are going to get large filesizes so be aware, PNG is not so good quality as your standard .jpeg image. the magic wand is a tool in photoshop but im sure its also a tool in GIMP, it removes block colour from an image

What are you talking about? PNG is Flash's preferred format for import on images AND it has a higher quality per file size than a JPEG can ever muster.
Don't trace your bitmaps, import them with a 32bit with alpha channel and Flash will recognize the transparency, as well as keep the file size down.

saving as a 24 bit bitmap makes a bigger filesize than a png or jpeg so im guessing 32 will be more. and jpeg may be better quality but at times the anti-a was a bit off on png, thats where i got the idea from the worse quality
