Hi, I just recently started animating and I was wondering if I could get some suggestions for good programs to use with animating. Right now I'm using Macromedia Flash 5 for my animator and I don't really have any sound programs. What would be some good recording/editing sound programs? My first couple of animations I would like to be sprite movies so I can get the basics of flash first, before I move on, so I guess an image editing program would be nice. Would I need a program that can convert different sound file types? (i.e. Midi to Wav, mp3 to Wav, etc.) Sorry, I realize that's kind of a lot of programs to ask for...^_^;

If you really want to be an animator, the last thing you want to do is make a sprite film. Start right off the bat with your own work.

Animating sprites is a great start to learn the basics of Flash, I think.
Just don't overdo it.

Eh, I'd rather suggest sticks as starting point, if you're not willing to be creative from the start. Sticks at least involve a good amount of FBF, which is universal to all animations. Sprites are really just useful for perfecting your tweening and learning how to use movie clips.

i think sprites are a good way to start off. teaches you the basics of flash without haveing to worry about fbf animation and stuff. I say that after you have a sprite animation with a score over 3.3 then you should move on to stick animation which will teach you the basics of fbf animation. And again, onve you have a submission over 3.3 with sticks you should try to move on to real animating with your own characters and detail and everything. That's how i look at how people should start off.

I agree, but there's lots of lazy beginners out there, that just would stop animating if they started at such a "high" level. Stick animation is probably step 2 to be a real animator.

He he, well I'm thankful for all of your guys' input, but so far, Dugh is the only who has actually given me a suggestion for a program to use. Although you did bring up an interesting term that I haven't heard about yet. FBF? I'm assuming that means frame-by-frame? Anyways, is there any other programs that you suggest using? Does Audacity cost anything money to get or is it a free program?
