What is so bloody hard about numbering sequels in movies? Rocky goes all the way to Rocky V, with no subtitles, but then when Rocky VI comes, it's just Rocky Balboa.

The Matrix, The Matrix: Reloaded, The Matrix: Revolutions...where are the numbers? Reloaded should be The Matrix 2: Reloaded. Makes sense, doesn't have any room for confusion.

Most of the numbers that could easily be there are replaced with subtitles. I know there's the thing with prequels, but why can't movie producers just go like Metal Gear Solid 3? Keep it numbered, but specify at the beginning of the movie that this one is a prequel, set in the year 20XX or whatever.

Honestly I just don't see the thing behind no numbers.

its a new trend for a lot of movies that seems to have started with george lucas and star wars but it is getting really popular right now. When they have these big elaborate names like Transformers: Revenge of the fallen, throwing the 2 in their just doesnt flow well

I think James Rolfe ( the angry video game nerd ) can shed some light on the subject.

How about you just NOT be retarded, and take the three seconds to figure out "OH, this one is after THAT one. Okay, that clears things up."

Yes, I made a flaw in my grammar on purpose in the first sentence.

I think that non numbered sequels are more interesting. They are really designed for that. Which is more catchy, Star Wars: Episode VI, or Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

I, personally, prefer the latter.

Not numbering makes it sound better, and makes it sounds more creative than just putting a number at the end of it.

Maybe all movie sequels are just expansion packs.

Alright, since none of you people read, i'll clarify. The Matrix: Reloaded should be The Matrix 2: Reloaded. It's more consistent and sounds better.

All to do with the audience. Someone see's "Movie Title 2" and might be put off because of several reasons. They haven't seen the previous film in the series, sequels have a tendancy to be worse than predecessors, etc. You stick a phrase on it instead of a number it less people will notices these possible problems.

I agree. Something 2: Return/Revenge/Rise/etc. of Something or other should not be that hard and it helps people know what order to watch these movies in.

Once you get to ______ 4, you really start to think they're overdoing it. With a name instead of a number, it makes it less obvious and sounds better so people are less put off.

It's more irritating when you're left with GTA, GTA2, GTA3, GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas, and GTA4.

Wait is that like Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake the third? Or is that the sequel to Metal Gear Solid? But Ghost Babel was already so why is there also a Metal Gear Solid too. And where does Snake's Revenge fit in all this? Plus Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops is a sequel to Metal Gear Solid 3 so shouldn't that be called Metal Gear Solid 4 or maybe Metal Gear Solid 3 2?

Metal Gear isn't the best example of clear sequeling.

Maybe because doing it the other way requires no imagination or anything, and they want to get people to think smarter.

Oh, and the reason Rocky VI was called Rocky Balboa is because Rocky V was hated by so many fans, it fell out of continuity (I think).
