Eh, so I've watched a lot of Star Trek, though it had been a couple years since I'd payed any attention at all. In fact, by the time they were canceling Enterprise, I had kind of drifted away anyway. Then of course, I see this trailor for a movie that looks good, and then at the end they're calling it star trek, with out any note of a sequel or anything and I'm thinking: "OK? I get it hollywood, you're out of ideas." But, I thought I'd go see it anyway.
You should know, I went into this movie with skepticisim, and I walked out completely satisfied. Right now, Star Trek is sporting a 96% on rotten tomatoes: something not seen since Spirited Away came out. This new movie is very much a thrill ride and it makes a return to a lot of classic things in movies that make movies good. The characters are compelling, cliche is avoided except where it is effective, the music is amazing, the viisualizations are stunning, the plot is held together well, and the movie manages to surprise without doting on the viewer to much to "make" you "understand" things.
I'm not a fan of spoilers, although there will undoubtedly be some below. My advice, see this movie in theaters while you can. Even if you don't like star trek, you'll love this movie. Its a cross between everything lovable about star trek, Star Wars episodes 4 & 5 (on the quirky characters level), and maybe even serenity. Be aware, this movie holds to some Star Trek motifs, but throws much of the old away. You'll be happiest if you let the story unravel without counting on anything too much.
There are few words to describe this, but I will wrap up with what I can:
Epic, fun, eye candy, full throttle, deep, developmental, boom

Number one, engage!
I certainly will, and feel more optimistic due to your review.
Although Patrick Stewart SHOULD have been in it....a cheap Wolverine Cameo is not enough for him.

Agreed. It's a fantastic film. I loved it. Everyone should see it, Trek fan or not.

That's an impressive score.
I sure am glad that it's not a Nemesis, because that movie was bad. I am going to see it this friday.
<3 Star Trek, I've been raised with it.

All things considered Nemesis was mediocre. They went over the top by having this really crazy clone enemy, and the movie just fell short because it felt like there was a lot of dead air. Still, when Data died I was sad. The movie did that alright, at the least.
This new movie, though, is excellent.

I wasn't raised on it, I just watched voyager when I was in middle school and caught up on the next generation, deep space 9, and enterprise after they were out with a sort of spattering of episodes. The new movie is less of a drama, though it still counts as drama on some level, and more of an action flick. Its a healthy mix of drama, action, and comedy.

I've never been a huge fan of Star Trek.
But I have to be honest, this movie doesn't seem half bad.

Cancelling Enterprise was the single biggest dissapointment I had in that five year span of my life. I would watch every new episode every weekend, and was so into it. You can imagine my sadness when it got cancelled.

I have never been a fan of Star Trek nor have i seen an episode or a movie with Star Trek but i might give this new one a try it's just that all that ridiculous technobabble (i think that's what it's called) gives me a major headache at least it did when i saw James Rolfe's (a.k.a AVGN) Star Trek movie reviews.

Hell no. I have a great dislike for Star Trek. I'll only watch a few episodes of next generation, and first contact. Mostly because i thought the borg queen chick from that movie was kinda hot.

I always found Star Trek to be kind of dull, but the movie looks fucking great.
Since I'm not a fan of Star Trek, it might be a bit hard for me to follow, however.

I'm going to be graduating from my college this Sunday. I'd like to say I'm very eager to see this movie shortly afterwards, as it's going to be my special day when we can do what I want.

Planning on seeing it next Saturday with my brothers. Good comic book shop is hosting something called a "Khan Con" (hurhurhur), where they're showing Wrath of Khan and the new movie, so I'm definitely skipping out of work to see it.
Been excited for it ever since I heard who was in it.

I've never watched an episode of Star Trek or any of the movies, so I'm not really sure if this movie is for me. I've seen a few trailers for it and I have to say that they made the movie look pretty good. I doubt I'll see this at the theaters, but I'll adventually watch it.

Is this a good movie to see? I know you were saying how you loved it, but i've never seen star trek in my life. I like science ficiton and all that and i'm a big star wars fan, so would this still be a good movie for me to go see one day?

Neither have I, but I'm going to see the movie just to see a popular movie.

They really dumb it down so anyone who hasn't really watched much Star Trek will be able to understand. The movie is more meaningful if you know who everyone is, but it's not crucial.
To movie is downright amazing though. If you even had a remote interest in seeing it I recommend you do. You'll be blown away.

When I first saw the trailer, I was kind of turned off by it. Now, I'm going to reconsider.

Nope--it's pretty much a relaunch of the Star Trek universe, as far as I know.
I mean, you got your TOS characters, but just a few things changed. It's how Kirk got the Enterprise and pretty much how he got the relationships between McCoy, Spock, Scotty, Chekov, and Uhura, as well as Sulu--basically leading into TOS.

I thoroughly enjoyed the most recent Star Trek movie.
However, I was surprised that, in my town, not nearly as many people as I expected went to see it (well, at least the 6:30 PM showing, which was when I and my friends saw it). I was (and still am) irked by this, so I have a proposal:
All the people who've seen and enjoyed terrible action movies like The Mummy 3 should see Star Trek, because even if they ignore the storyline, there is still plenty of action to keep them satisfied.
